I spent over $200 in Adwords in the past 2 months and I received 1 customer the whole time. The ROI is very poor with adwords even with placement. Has anyone had any really good luck with adwords as far as a really good ROI if so how much did you spend approx. and what was your product?

I wonder - was this your own product or service you were selling - or part of an affiliate scheme?

If you're selling a product with a $2000 commission, then getting one sale for $200 in Adwords, isn't a bad deal :p

It sounds like you're acquiring plenty of traffic, but not converting them. This usually means that your keywords and ads don't match up to your landing page content very well, your page is fugly (or have other site issues), or your pricing is too high. Yes, I know it can mean a million different things, but it's usually something along these lines.

Check your bounce rate. Are a high percentage of visitors leaving, without checking out other pages of your site? If so, you have landing page issues such as content not matching the ads, insufficient content, or other site issue. Consider reviewing your ads and landing page(s).

If your bounce rate is low, your page views are decent, and the average time on site is good, then congratulations! This means you've attracted visitors who are interested in what you have to say, and how you have said it.

If your visitors engagement is good, but you're not converting, then maybe you've got a problem with checkout (look at your funnel abandonment in analytics). Find the page(s) with high exit rates, and see where they are leaving. There's the place to start investigating.

Of course, if you're selling snake oil, how to get rich while watching TV or similar, then ignore the above and reconsider your product/service offering!
