Hi Guys, Been doing seo for 2+ years now but for the past 6 months i have been out of the game. I run a couple of sites that 6 months ago ranked great in yahoo and google (msn was up and down but i didnt really care to much about it) Very competitive industry on and offline. I based my seo on following the simple rules like adding a robot txt file, alt tags on images, Hx tags but to gain good ranking on the big keywords i went after lots of inbound links and lots of content on my pages. As i said this worked great 6 months ago. Now when i look at yahoo i have been dropped to page 3 for most of my keywords apart from my main homepage keyword (still on page 1) Whats happened to yahoo in the past few months ? What am i missing ? what have i missed out on ? As for google ... im doing ok ... a few on page 1 and 2 but i have started to work on a couple of keywords that i sit on page2 but when i look at the competition i just cant understand what they are doing thats so much better then me? Same PR (For what its worth), I have more inbound quality links, my pages have much more content ??? Again - what am i missing? or what have i missed? The google one really gets me ... I see a site that 6 months ago was on like page 4 and now its page 1 ... when i check the inbound links for it they have no more then me ? and whats really odd (hopefully someone can explain) the site in question has NO content ... ? It is made up from single links from a nav menu (Home, About us etc ...) then a lots of images and then finally about 30 links in the footer of the page that are all keyword rich (blue-widgets-in-america.html) ? someone help .... !!!!!!!!!!!!! please Thanks inadvance.
It's not only about having a lot of inbound links. All of this links are useless if it's not relevant with the content of your site! got it? For ex. If your site is all about sports then you should also have inbound links focused on this theme. All of your inbound links must be related and relevant with your site content.
