I've found myself being Smartpriced heavily lately, mainly because I have adsense on a few forums which get tonnes of impressions. Here's something that I've implemented lately to reduce the amount of impressions & increase CTR. Integrate Phpadsnew onto a new domain on your site, domain.yoursite.com Call your adsense via phpadsnew javascript function. You can set the ads to display by creating various zones on your site. So for example, if you have a left column you can create a zone "left column." I've set up a few of my sites to show the ads for the first 5 impressions for any visitor on the site (you can set it to 10 or 20 or whatever), if they don't click on the ad within the first 5 loads, I'll then serve them another ad (Chitika), if they don't click on that one then I'll serve another (Affiliate). I've found this technique reduces the amount of unnecessary impressions & has certainly helped with my Smartpricing issues. Some people may argue that you may lose out on a click on the ads only showing it for 10 impressions, but I've usually found that if they don't click within that amount of page loads they probably won't click at all. Hope this helps some of you guys
That's right, afaik it's a free script. It'll also report for you impressions, CTR etc etc very customizable It can be quite hard to get used to at first, knowing how to set up the zones & the banners etc, but once you get going you can use it to serve ads to all of your sites from one install.
CTR doesn't actually have a bearing on smart pricing, so reducing your impressions won't have an impact on smart pricing.
One question I've posed to Google a few times but never quite received a concrete response (strangely enough, they usually respond in a timely manner) is whether or not parsing the links via the Java method (so the AdSense code never actually appears in your code) is against TOS. What invocation method are you using? Have you had the go ahead from Google regarding the Java presentation? The reason I'm asking is one of my particular scripts doesn't allow for php code within some of its fields, so I need to do a few bastardly workarounds to get things working. EDIT: If you get the GeoIP databases integrated and you happen to have a YPN account handy... display YPN ads to your US visitors, AdSense to the rest, and put a smattering of localized affiliate ads in there as well!
i use phpadsnew, and afaik, there is no way to monitor adsense ctr, because it requires modifying the javascript in the ad... which is against the tos. no one outside of google knows how that so-called "smart pricing" really works, but i have found that adsense on certain pages will lower the epc for the entire site... but not necessarily the entire account, contrary to what gets posted on numerous forums. the pages that i removed adsense from were all low ctr pages, because google doesn't give you much else in the way of stats to work with. art, i told adsense support that i was using phpadsnew, and they never responded to my email... not sure why they are ignoring this issue.
Yep that's true, you are allowed to use it with Adsense but you need to uncheck the alter html code to track clicks tickbox. You can track all your other ctr on affiliate ads etc though by ticking that box. My average click price has risen since I've implemented this...
