A little Firefox extension for webmasters

    Hi, lurker posting...

After the thousandth time I strained my eyeballs trying to spot where my sites show up in Google search results, I put together a little Firefox extension to make it easier. It's called "Highlight My Site" (yeah, naming Firefox extensions is not my strong suit).

Basically, you can configure a list of domains (maybe the ones you own, or maybe your competitors), and then whenever you do a Google search, it will automatically highlight those domains in the results.

It's available here: http://freesoftware.cr.uz/highlight_my_site (because I just registered for the forum I can't make a live link, you have to copy and paste the URL).

I hope you find it helpful. If you have any problems or suggestions, please post them here. Thanks!

The problem with Firefox extensions hosted on 3rd party sites is they could contain some kind of a malicious code.
Personally I would never install a Firefox extensions from a ramdom site that I don't trust.

I understand what you're saying. On the one hand, it would be hard to create a malicious Firefox extension that lasted for long without getting a pretty bad reputation, since anyone who downloads it can go in and look at the source code - and in the case of this one, the code is quite straightforward. But on the other hand, I guess someone could do a lot of damage to unsuspecting users in a short time if they wanted to.

I have uploaded it to the Mozilla add-ons repository, and it now has a page here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7592

Hopefully soon the editors there will check it out and it will go onto the officially-approved list. At that point I encourage you to give it a try!

propod: Glad to hear it. Please let me know if you have any problems or have ideas for improvements.
