I am just a little confused. I have been thinking about a few things. Google basis things on pagerank and that is basically a democratic rating system by which sites vote for another site by linking to it. Also content is king. So if you actually took the time to write good original content, why would you need to link to another webpage? So is google basically banking on the fact people are blogging and gonna link to other sites in the hopes to raise pagerank and all this is , is all of us constantly promoting each other and clicking on each other's ads and it is a self revolving system for google to make money.
Google want to Know how much your website is popular in the world, and google wants to know how many web pages are telling that there is a site named "yourdomain.com" this is called a backlink and some times link popularity... Your Page rank is Based on it... I have seen many pages having 5,6 PR without enough content... Content is the King but in the case of Traffic and SERPs , Backlinks are King in case of Page Rank
Google doesn't base ranking on PR; PR is just one factor among many that determine where you rank. You need content and you need links
Yes, I understand the above but my point is that I believe that I have written the overall best content for my site on a particular subject then I would most likely feel like I didn't need to link to another site unless it was some affiliate or something. I just seems page rank sort of lends itself to bloggers talking about static content sites.
The amounts of links that pages get vary very much with different niches. Some niches (like webdesign) are very online-oriented, so there will be a lot of linking between sites. Other niches - lots less links, so only a few links can get your site ranked. But any niche I've seen so far has sites that link to other sites, to help their visitors. And if your site offers good content, just asking them to link to you is not going to be a problem. With commercial sites it's usually harder - but even there great content will get you links. On topics where blogging is the normal thing to do, linking does sometimes seem to become a sort of 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' type of thing. But respected members of the community will get more links, and that's still precisely what google wants to know.
i been thinkin about pr for some times. jus that, concluded that dont put too much weight on pr thing. if PR is life & dead of website, so importantly differentiate a website from another: google will keep those PR updated daily/weekly. the fact is, PR is updated 3-6 mths once. thus, its not that much important. just average for me.
PR is important, not very important, but still a relevant factor. The PR in the toolbar is another issue: that's only updated once every 3 to 6 months, but that doesn't mean google doesn't internally update the PR. In fact, they say they do update PR continuously, it's just that they don't show that to webmasters. They want us to worry about other things (like building content, preferably).
