I have a competitive website: www.poorcreditgenie.com Some days I do Ok somedays nothing. I've done all the promoting stuff - link exchanges, writing articles, joining newsgroups, etc. My biggest problem is that I am not getting anything out of google search results. If I use keywords that are not searched that much I show up on the first page in Yahoo and MSN but these keywords are not searched much at all. This week I changed the keyword but I'm afraid there will probably be more search results and I will really get lost. I think I'm also in the sandbox. Any advice would be great. I am really missing link exhanges from financial websites but they all seem to be competitors rather than partners. It seems like I can't really target "credit" and "debt management" type companies. Any ideas on what alternate sites I can target?
there is no reason why you shouldn't be targeting many keywords. people are definitely searching for words other than 'the keyword' you've optimized for. spread things out a bit.
Your domain looks like it was just registered 1 1/2 months ago. It is too new to rank well for any competitive terms on google. There are many posts on DP about the google sandbox on new domains. Also, google shows only 7 backlinks to your domain. You are going to need a LOT more links to get traffic for a term like "credit" The #10 ranking for that term has 1,900 backlinks. You need to focus on other terms as it probably isn't likely you will ever rank well for that term when you look at the sites you are going up against.
mjewel How did you figure out my backlinks?. I've done about 20 link exchanges this week and I want to start monitoring them. I assume you used some kind of a tool?
Moneyfolk Theres a great tool here http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/ It tracks back links and keyword position. Regards Brian
Just go to google search and put in: link:www.yourdomainname.com Google doesn't show all backlinks, but it doesn't show all for the top ranking sites either. You may have 100 backlinks but google might only show 20.... just like a top ranking site may have 5,000 but google only shows 1,000. You want to compare what google shows to what it shows for other sites - not exact - but it a good gauge.
I have started using this tool recently, but I find even this doesnt show all the backlinks. Any idea how often the data gets updated for the keyword and backlinks tool at DP?
Has been showing the right backlinks for me. I always ask it to check MSN, yahoo and Google. Each time I refresh it gives the same answers as using the "link:xxxxx " search for the individual search engines. Regards Brian www.bestrealincome.com
How much of your content is original? I selected an article randomly and checked on the net....found 5 other sites with the same article. Duplicate content can affect your SE rankings.
sachin410 - was your question for me?. All my content is original but i also write articles that gets used by others via ezine, isnare, etc. I have about 10 articles from ezine and others that I use on my articles page.
Yes the question was for you. Maybe it will take some time before it moves up the rankings. You already have a PR of 3 and there is lot of content. I think a little more link building should do the trick for you.. have patience
me and you both, i can't rank on google either for my website (in sig). Been around for like 8 months and still nothing. I must have gone after too competitive of keywords. Everyone loves my site who sees it but i do not get enough traffic at all. Some days it is disheartening but i'm sure it will get better. Just have to find that thing that motivates you.
