Scientific studies conducted in this area in the UK and the US have shown that young people who watch subtitled videos have more developed reading skills and a better understanding of the content. In particular, research conducted by the independent organization National Literacy Trust in the UK has shown that children aged 8 to 16 who watched subtitled videos performed better on reading tests than children who did not. Another scientific study conducted in India showed that the use of subtitles reduces the strain on the viewer's brain by lowering the need to concentrate on auditory information. This finding may be of particular importance when developing educational programmes for children and adolescents who have concentration problems. Did you know about that?
Damn, I should have done that with my kids Back in the '90s I met some lads from Portugal who said their English was better than their Spanish peers because they had subtitles and english language movies while in Spain they'd get the same movies dubbed. If it works for learning a second language it tracks that it would help kids too.
