A guy threatning me !

He asked me to edit a plugin for him, i said that will work with existing plugins but to get options like he asked, i can edit the plugin and give him. I have retained the copy rights of original other and maintained his link in all the places. Didn't modify in any places. (I have said many times that i didn't write the original script, i have added the option he said and given him)

But the buyer is threatning me that, i have to add another option in that plugin else he will sue me and also will give a negative i trader. what can i do now?

Actually he started to threaten only after asking the additional option (1 week after i sold the script).

What should i do now. ? i even don't know where is the place to ask this.

 

Can you move the thread to copy right and legal issues where i can get ideas about the others regarding this plugin option modification selling.

Can i get payment for adding a option to the existing plugin? Though i didn't modify any license, original author, etc., and told my buyer that the plugin is modification and not new plugin.

 

As far as I know, you can legally sell a modified script if the original license permits it. It doesn't matter that you kept all the copyright links - if the license of the script forbids modifications and resell, then you're in the wrong, and can get sued.

 

ask him that you will do the second option, but ask for the additional money for your efforts.

- Do worry about iTraders/Reviews= Do it right on ethical ways. some of the people are very bad and try to take the benefits from the service provider.

- As you havn't modified and didn't removed the link of original owner then you will not be sued. If that script allows you to resell rights using their links.

- You can take the backup from your lawyer and consult them and keep the copy of all your email's. And if required Sue them from your side. if they try to threaten you more.

I got the project from BST Section of DP.

He was complaining that i never mentioned that was "customized plugin" But i mentioned many times, when i asked him to see his msn history he told it was too old can't see although he has enabled history. I haven't used msn before, i am using for 20 days so i didn't enable history in MSN.

He threatned that he will ask for buyback from paypal, after reading some other threads in DP. I understood that paypal favors buyers rather than sellers. So i added one more option in that plugin for free

He was using that plugin in auto blog(initially i don't know what is that)
The plugin does this work after 20 or n number of page views the certain words will be replaced. This is used when the original blogger makes fake post with lot of offensive words.

Now i came to know, there is one thing called autoblog and it will affect bloggers.

Be careful when you write program for warez people.

 

if u told him that its modified and u charged him only for the modified part then i think everything is fine
however if u took money for the orginal part also ! u have repay the buyer and the original script writer ! to be on the safe side ...

Yes as roopajyothi said encrypt the script and always have the chat record on. before starting the project clearly distinguish what you will do and what you dont, these can be provided at the time of disputes.

and autoblog? I bet that script is illegal itself. it probably gathers data from rss feeds where websites say you cannot use their content in any way.

We need some option like, script or service completed Button. (Seller will press)

Buyer will confirm, i got that or some thing like that.

The problem really comes, when the buyer can leave the iTrader after a week or 10 days.

I need some better options in iTrader to protect sellers and buyers too.

 

Tell him to sue you. He can't afford a lawyer, for one, and if he tried a small claim collecting it is like squeezing blood from a rock. Negative iTrader? Woopee. Get 10 positive ones and that will cancel it out. Person sounds unreasonable and probably needs a good ass whoopin'.

If you have his/her money... Give it back and pass on this one.
