    Yup.

I wouldn't count on that boosting your PR very much, but it's a good idea to do anyways.

If you're referring to future pagerank tools, that's not unusual. You usually need to have 100+ backlinks to get those to work. Even then, they're inaccurate and unreliable. If those links you have don't also have a lot of outbound links on the pages you're getting the links from, then you stand a decent chance of getting a PR6. If they've got a lot of outbounds, don't count on more than a PR4. Don't discount the low PR links, either, though.

And if you're buying a lot of links, depending on the footprint, you can get a SERPS or PR penalty, which defeats the purpose in the first place.

Great post. Good points. Follow up question: maybe he should get the links GRADUALLY? Over a few weeks instead of in just one massive spike?

Getting links gradually or not in one massive spike seems to be the convential wisdom, although I know some indviduals that seem to know what they're talking about say otherwise. My personal opinion is that it probably depends on the nature of the links...for example, does the site show up in a bunch of sitewide blogrolls, but in no blog posts? Spammy blog networks? Trusted sites? All from sites that Google 'knows' sells links? I think Google knows the difference, or at least knows when several red flags get raised and thus triggers some kind of penalty.

Now listen to my tip. You won't find it in any SEO book or forum.
This is from my own experinence.

Now you know from this thread where you can get backlinks.
This is not a problem nowadays.

But the problem is to convince Google NOT TO IGNORE your backlinks.
In other words, links must look natural.

If you build links occassionally, from time to time, and a lot of them at a time,
I guarantee Google will ignore them and they will not affect your rankings.

My secret is to add backlinks every day or every other day.
In other words, make directory submissions regularly.

The more links you build at a time, the more often you must do this.
If you build 100 links or more at a time, you must do this everyday.

Thanks for all the input. I think I am going to add about 10 directories a day and try to get some link exchanges. I am already getting many google hits with a pr0!

yup.. think 10 dirs would be enough if we are rather lack of spare time. Yesterday I only got abuot 5 dirs to submit, all of them free submission :D
