I have a website that is "under contruction" - meaning, "I haven't had any time to even begin to develop it". It consists of 1 "under construction" page...that's it. It has no backlinks, yet for some reason it has been indexed by Google and has a PR1. What a joke. The domain is klinecreative[DOT]com (I don't want a backlink now either).
Yup, PR is antiquated at best. Google awards the majority of sites a PR1 that have been around for a while, how old is your site? Obviously google is visiting/indexing/caching your site and it does appear that you have 1 backlink from: http://cdbaby.com/cd/cdsotshcg Anchor: Offical website of composers Beatty & Kline Outbound Links on Page: 46 That could be contributing to your PR. Anyhoo, PR plays very little in how a site ranks, duh, obviously.
Ahhh...my wife must have added the link on CD Baby. I guess she's trying to tell me something. But the outbound links makes no sense. There are no other pages or outbound links???
A year ago I developed website www.mooreandallan.com with almost no content and no back links and no traffic. All 4 pages having PR3 for full year. From other hand my another website (www.montreallisting.ca) has more than 6000 pages indexed in google and has a lot of traffic, but has same PR3.
PageRank seems to be random, all my better sites have least Pagerank. My crappy junky sites get fairly decent PageRanks. Just odd. Google PageRank a few years ago made sense.
I have a domain that will be a year old this week and has been parked on Googles Adsense for domains the entire time. The only reference to it is on domain appraisal pages and it has a PR1.
It's based on statistics and algorithms Google doesn't share with the public. Besides what you guys are saying makes no sense. Why should PageRank only relate to how many visitors your website has? PageRank is a score based on over 50 different factors. If you have a lot of traffic and low PR, then that only means that you need to improve other areas of your site: a) Does it have relevant title tags, description tag and keyword tag? b) Are there any external links pointing to your site using relevant keywords in them? c) Is your content well written? Sentence structure must make sense. d) Are people leaving the site after 8 seconds, or after 8 minutes? (Your traffic means nothing if its not targeted...eg. if its not helping the visitor, which is ONE of the things Google wants to accomplish) e) ... plenty more Remember that every successful entrepreneur knows that the image of the company is very important. Google poses as "know it all" or "we do it the right way", as many other popular companies... but it doesn't MEAN that they actually are doing things the right way MOST OF THE TIME. Google isn't a perfect algorithm. It could be improved. But we shouldn't concern ourselves with that... we should think how can we make our sites to they can be in SYNC with what Google considers important. Whether it's right or wrong, it doesn't matter, as long as you align yourself with Google's rules and laws... Which, if you think about, were made up by human beings with the same brain you and I have. I'm sure if you were the owner of a popular website, you wouldn't be thinking that PR is a joke, because those websites PRs are between 8 and 10, and there IS a good reason for it. I'm sure the owners of those websites know what it is. Of course if you only have a few thousands of visitors on your site and a couple of external links, your statistics will not make sense to you because they are average. This means that if your site has high traffic, but 0 external links, then the PR will be low because you need other elements of your site to be there. It's time to stop being so idealistic and move on and do some real work in improving your website!
PageRank is solely determined on the number of quality links pointing to your site / blog. Nothing else...... To the OP you picked up a dropped domain name, so it likely still holds the PR from obscure links Google has stuck in their database.
I think it will be a matter of time Google will update the PageRank and you may see it drops. Same goes with my sites, I can see some sites PR went up while others go down. It is like roller coaster rides for all my sites.
From my point of view the Page Rank is not important at all. PR is for newbies.... I know many methods how to rise a page rank, but I prefer to spend my time working on SERPs.
