I have been looking into getting into the "Wine" niche. Do you think that is a niche with a lot of potential/demand or should I just forget about it? Why/why not? I don't really know much about the niche so I kind of need some advice.

"Wine" has a high search volume. It has 37 million monthly searches in Google, 18 million in Yahoo and surely the competition for this niche is high.

Doesn't look like too difficult of a niche from just a quick check. What you need to consider is do you already have something in mind (high ROI) to sell or market. You need to consider that before exploring further.

It's a niche with a lot of experts online already who you'll be competing against. If you don't know anything about it you'll just get left behind, unless you've got a really unique selling point. Between the wine merchants selling it, and the connoisseur blogs writing about it, it's very competitive.

If this is your first time, I'd advise you to get into a niche you know something about.

Don't start with wine, start with a niche that you know, and once you've learnt the tricks of the trade, try your hand at other niches.

    2 things to take note

    - Find a subniche, not a niche. A niche would be entertainment related webpage, a subniche would be a webpage focusing on a certain artist or band. You'll have much less competitions so you have a better chance of ranking well on the SE.

    - Do your keyword research, be sure to pick keywords that have good search volume and not alot of competition. You can also target long tail keywords at the same time during this process.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Hey man!

I am going to be launcing my own keyword research service soon and I have actually looked a bit into the wine niche. I will give you some tips for this niche.

There is quite a lot of money in the wine market. Just think about the types of people who are interested in wine! They are usually well off wealth wise. Think a bit about what else related to the wine market these people are interested in apart from just wine.

As with my keyword service I will have done most of the work for you so here are some great ideas you can use today. I can't give you the exact keywords now though.

People who are interested in wine are crazy about it. Some are willing to spend a lot of money on trips to places such as france for wine tasting experiments and courses. If you want a good product to sell check wine refrigerators. There are a huge amount of people looking for them!

Hopefully this will help you get started.

First thing you need to understand is that "What is Niche?":
    - Basically niche is a group of people who are interested in a perticualar product or share a specific interest/problem. IT IS NOT A CATEGORY TO THINGS ON SALE!

Secondly, you need to know if you niche has a market around? You need to compare it with online & offline demand. If offline demand & supply is more, it won't be easy to market online.

Third are the keywords. "Wine" itself is nearly impossible to rank. Get you keywords specific your product. Surly you are not selling WINE but a type of wine or something related. Categorise it and narrow ur categorization and then slowly scale your marketing techniques to take over the market.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have dealt with other specific niches before so I do have some experience with development. To be honest, I wasn't thinking about selling something more than I was just focusing on building up traffic. Of course, to do that, there needs to be a demand for it. Once again, thank you all for your help! It is much appreciated =D

I think the wine niche is going to have a -lot- of competition.

Maybe you can focus on a certain type of wine or vineyards in a certain part of California. Go for something with a little less competition.
