RE: Links from unused blogs I had a page that sat around for a year, and according to Google webmaster tools the last time a google bot visited the main index was like three months. And that's the main index... with deeper links the wait could be even longer, and could likely (in theory) never be seen by a bot again, unless something new gets pointed in the direction of the site or that entry specifically one may be wasting their time to bother getting such old links. Then there is still the problems of getting it seen by the blogger should new posts get sent to a queue...if the person has not updated their blog in ages, then what are the chances they are still checking comments? RE: Using forums as Bait for your Articles Linking articles through forums is a good idea though... I suggest that you post 10% of an article with a link back too it. Most mods should allow this, especially if you are posting as someone else. According to fair use laws (under copyright) it's OK to use a snippet of an article that is copyrighted, but it's not OK to use the whole thing...so be sure to copyright your articles before linking too them Some related threads: Forum Link Building tips (it's not just your signiture!) Firstly, it is easy enough to get the comment noticed by crawlers. Just ping Google Blogsearch with the feed in question. Not 100% sure that it will get visited, but likely enough. Also, many blogs have comment moderation disabled, so it is possible to get the comments online on some unused blogs.
Fair enough Ancient forums could likely produce an equal amount of backlinks as well... if PR has traveled from the main index to a few sticky threads that likely would not hurt things either.
great tips. I have been doing the ' old blog thing' for a while already. The problem there is either it might be a no follow blog and second what if the comment is help for moderation?
How can you tell before you post if the blog has a "no follow" command? Does the blog master add this command after the blog is posted or is it a default setting?
What do you guys think about this: there is a certain site i'm trying to beat in rankings. they have more age and more link age, but I have probably 10 times more related back links than this site. The problem is they have roughly 100 backlinks, 100% of which have anchor text relevant to the term we are competing for. My 1000 backlinks that are relevant to the term we are competing for makes up only 50% of my backlinks. So, do you guys think that google thinks that other site is more relevant to that term just because they have a higher percentage of relevant backlinks, even though my relevant backlinks outnumber theirs 1 to 10? ideas?
