A few simple questions

    Hi there,

I'm a newbie when it comes to SEO and link development, so I'd like to ask you a few simple questions. Any help is appreciated.

    1. A lot of guys are offering SEO/Link development services here on DP (submitting your site to hundreds of directories etc.). Is getting submitted on 100 or more directories in 2-3 days allowed by Google? Isn't that getting too many backlinks in a short period of time? If so, how many backlinks should one get per day?

    2. Just to make one thing sure... When my link gets approved and added in 1 directory - is that 1 backlink?

    3. Is there a list of regular directories/article directories (free, non-reciprocal) that everyone can submit their links to?

    Thanks.

    hi dmi,

I'll start by saying that I'm not a big found of directories (except maybe the ones which are specialised in the area of my site) and in general manner I tend to stay away from them when I'm working on my SEO.

    Why :

    - It's time consuming to get listed manually, so I only registered to the main ones at the very beginning of my websites' life.
    - They usually don't bring much, so you need an awful lot of them to get somewhere.
    - If you use the same amount of time looking for partners to exchange links with a good anchor for the links, the results will be much better.

Rule of thumb : quality not quantity ;)

If you target some very specific keywords, directories can be enough though . .. but otherwise, I would not even bother with them and start getting links from partners, blogs, forums, articles ...
Usually I start by looking where my competitors are getting their links from, that's a good way to find potential partners and to get listed for free in many sites.

    Regarding your questions :

    1) It's all a matter of ratio. If your site is 1 year old and already has 1000 BL. If in 1 day you are getting 100 BL and then nothing. You should be ok. If in 1 week your are getting 10000 BL, with the same keyword for the anchor, there you may be in trouble ;)

    2) It takes time to be approved ... if you are approved :)

    3) What I would suggest you is to take a look at this thread : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=224828
You can take some time to register you in the list he mentiones and maybe as well to the list of 200 directories he links to, but I would not do more than that : it is time consuming, won't bring you trafic and won't have such an influence on your SEO ...

    good luck !

I think you are interesting in link development through directory submission services. Directory submission is easy and cheap method of getting inbound links. They are much more beyond this in link development.

Thanks for your answers. I have another question :D

When submitting to article directories, is it allowed to have active links in your article?

that depends where you submit. Usually when it's free you can't have active links ...
You get what you pay for I suppose :)

    hey

Well, some are getting you active links.

If you are posting press releases every week or so to 15 to 20 free press releases sites, then you'll notice interesting results. No daoubt.

The best results though come from specialised sites where you paid to get your PR published ...

Trying to get links from various places it a good thing.

A couple of times, I created a specific landing page on my site to promote my last product and posted press releases and posted a bit in forum with a link to that specific page. Google Webmaster tools said I had about 50 links to that specific page very soon after. So with little effort I got that page started.

When you submit your site to 100-200 directories in 1-2 days, it may take days, weeks, and even months, for some of the directories to add you to their site.... so you won't get a penalty for adding links too quickly, unless you are extremely lucky (unlucky) to get accepted in a day or two from 200 directories.

Read on link building blogs to see other ways to build backlinks, that are free.
