google is the answer, search in google for the keywords for which you have basic idea and see the competition on top right hand corner, then search for long keywords related to original keywords and get the competition, optimise for lesser searched keywords, rank high and then optimise for the major keywords, then sit tight LOL, see you after 6 months:)

That would be the 2nd step.

I believe the 1st step is by reading the newspapers or magazines or watching TV and choose several industries that you want to get in.

Well thats right, "If you wanna make a site" then that would be the best to choose a niche.. btw, once u finalise that, then re-confirm that by reading user reviews on that particular niche, how much effort it would require, is it money earning? Afterall $$$$ is all that comes out as the bottomline.. So my earlier post goes as the thrid step then ;)

First analyze your market ask few question to yourself like
    - which market your want to target
    - age of people u want to target
    - which is your main products
    - who are your competitors
and than start keyword research according to your research. just keep in mind that only traffic is not important but sells also important.
u should read keyword research section here.

It depends on your site. First thing to do is to know your target market, then the theme of your site, the possible keywords to use, the activity of the keywords (competitiveness, number of searches, keyword difficulty), etc..

You've got to have passion for whatever you create a site about otherwise you will most likely dump it when the going gets tough.

one of the method i use. i summarized it to:

The 10 Steps of Easy Niche Marketing :)

    1. go to Amazon, look for bestseller, there got books, electronics, toys, dvd, software, music.

    2. pick one field, for example i pick the books, go look into all bestseller in books.

    3. i saw a 8th ranking book -> "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom: Creating Physical and Emotional Health and Healing". (just for example)

    4. check the details to read the reviews to understand what it is all about.

    5. check the key phrases part to get some ideas on the keywords and build a keyword list based on that.

    6. use keyword tool to check each keyword to see the search volume per month and the level of competition.

    7. look for relevant niche products.

    8. register a domain and build a site with relevant info together with the adsense code or affiliate link or sales page.

    9. do some basic optimization to the site content, especially page title, page description, and insert the keywords into the content where it fit properly.

    10. promote with ppc or just depends on organic search. (your choice)

more other methods to generate niche ideas. all to do is try and improve and repeat the process.

    That's a good strategy.

And as for the Overture Keyword suggestion tool, how many searches does it have to be for the keyword to be a potential website foundation?
