A Few Random N00b Questions

Hey everyone, I'm just starting out with Adwords and had a few questions some of you old pros might be able to answer. Rest assured I have used the search button first but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a good free Windows program for managing adwords, something that would add some tools not seen in the actual Adwords system.

Also, I live in Canada but I'd like to post ads for the U.S., however whenever I type in Google.com I get redirected to Google.ca is there any way short of using a proxy to get around this? I'd like to be able to check keywords to see what kind of competition they have. Or better yet is there a program that can check keywords and tell me how many competitors there are?

And finally, I've read some Ebooks and some of them mention the Overture max bid tool, but when I try to use it it says it's not there anymore. I imagine it's been taken down and that's fine, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a decent substitute.

    Thanks for your time,
    H²

Just to quickly answer one of your questions, go to:

    www.google.com/adpreview

Then select the locale you want to check the ads of. In your case it's the United States.

The AdWords Editor has some features not available in the standard web interface.

So, one last thing, Does anyone know of a free program that I can plug in a list of keywords and it will tell me how many competitors I would have? It's a pain to have to search for every single keyword on Google.

Why would care how many competitors you have?

Well, I like to look for keywords that don't have many competitors so I can be at or near the top for not a lot of money per click.

I use adwordsanywhere.com. It's a one time $10 fee and it beats using a proxy.

The best alternatives that I have found are:

    http://digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion
    http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

You need to multiply the search results they display by something like 30 to get the google numbers.
