A few questions

1.) Alright lets say you have your website and its very niche specific. Then you want a personal blog where you just talk about any and everything. Be it current events, rants and raves, funny photos, or how to make a genetic flying goat. Would Google penalize you for trying to build links and non relevant content for blog.mysite.com? I ask because I'm just familiar with sites linking with similar content, not sure how something so broad works.

    Or

2.) Get a new domain and try to make a new brand (hey even throw in backlinks for your other sites on a new Ip!)

3.) Now I see a personal blog as just something fun to do and just write down everything and nothing, but would it be worth trying to monetize it? Is it even possible to run a very successful stand alone person blog with some great post on a variety of topics?

Post popularity, new links by user depends only on content. Work on your content,

I guess a subdomain does not affect the main brand. Not sure though.

ya many high valued sites are running the subdomains and are putting very general things on that, so there should be no problem in that.

When your blog is popular,it's easy for you to make it commercial. Then money comes. The first step is to make it
well-known.This may be a tough course and you will devote yourself into it.

I agree with you when you say that website optimization needs to come first.
