hi, 1. can adding a link to a certain website withour recieving prior consent, and sending them a via email a request for a reciprocal link - be considered as spam? 2. is the place I put the links on my website a major concern for the other party or they just want it to be there for the webcrawlers of the earch engines, and if so what kind of page is it recommended - a special page just for links? 3. if i have a pr3 website - what websites should i aim at - pr3, pr4, pr5? 4. assuming that pr3 are the most likely to respond and consent - is the number of pr3 websites that link to me eventually raise my ranking to pr 4 etc? and input would be appreciated. thanks mikush
hi 1. i wouldn't consider it spam 2. search engine and google especially don't like link farms so try not to have more external links than internal on that page 3. aim all kind of pages, even pr 0 are good... it's better to have a proportional number of pages linking to you: pr 0 > pr 1 > pr 3 ... > pr 10 that would be like a normal evolution 4. each page linking to you transfers amount of pr, so yes even if it is pr 3 it can rise your pr.. you can have all ibl from pr 2 sites for example and the pr still rise up 5. good luck
1 - Yes you can, just take care to not give links to dodgy or banned sites. 2 - Take care where you put links. Basically they take PR from the page, my approach is to have a links page below main menu for my quality partner sites, and another link page below this for other sites. Basically the deeper link pages get less google visits, lower PR, and thus less given away from my site. 3- There is not limit, e.g. we would all like PR10 but will never get there. I wouldn't set a higher limit. As people say though key is getting traffic. The benefit of higher PR is getting other relevant sites wanting to link with you. 4 - No one knows exactly how google applies PR, there are some theory calculations but the general factor is the with each increase of 1 in PR it it worth a multiple of the lower rank. Tus PR1 = AxPR0, PR2 = AxPR1, PR3= AxPR3, etc. So you can see that a higher PR page have the 'voting power' of many times the lower PR pages. One word of caution, don;t just focus on high PR links, Google will get suspcious, links need to look natural and relevant to your site.
Re: 1 you can certainly link to whatever site you want to, there's no "permission" to request. But I'd say it's more common to write first and request a reciprocal link exchange. If you wrote and said you had already linked to me, I'd be more likely to just keep your inbound link. Not everyone is as much a bastard as me, but you should keep it in mind.
