Generally what is better for a site, a couple of high PR (7+) or a lot of lower PR. Also is there any general guide to how many low PR links are equvilant to a single high PR link.

If you work smart, get a few high PR dofollow sitewide links. This works more better than getting a lot of backlinks from lower PR to increase your PR value.

About how many low PR links are equvilant to a single high PR link.

I think only Google knows. However, the mixed links will increase your link popularity.

    I prefer combination of them.
I need links from every pr value.
But of course, high pr values are better and I don't know how to make that calculation between pr values.
One page with pr value 9 may make the pr value of your page 4 or 5.
One of my sites 20k backlinks with pr 0 and its pr value is only 1.

I will definitely love HIGH PR, There are very complex mathematical calculation about the Number of such PR, you may find it, after searching google pr, in google.com -> wikipedia.

Alot of low-medium pr would work better than a high pr. Thus you do not need big budget to get a medium pr rather than get a high pr

Ideally you should diversify your link portfolio to make it look as natural as possible in Google's eyes.
So get a few high PR links from authority (established) sites and many lower PR links as well (article submission, forums, blogs, etc.)

I have a very diversed link portfolio (what big words, whoa) and I think you should definitely have quite some low-PR links pointing to your website. If you only have high-PR links, that probably seems a bit fishy in Google's eyes. Can't blame Google for that, really.

You should not stick to getting backlinks just from high PR websites.. In natural link building general bloggers totally unrelated to your site will give you a blogroll link or link to one of your internal pages from a new post. So you have to get all types of links so that you don't stand out and get penalized for manipulating SERPs. :)

Basically you divide the PR of the linking site by 16.. now this is a very rough calculation but close enough..

Its good to have high PR linked to your home page and then some lower PR sites linking to deeper indexed pages..

    Thats hat works for me.

Always look for high PR dofollow backlink.
Let me see, i can say 1PR7 backlink is equal to around 2000 PR1 link or 40PR4 link

From my recent experience, few high PR are better than many low PR.

There are several reasons to guess that PR meaning satisfies Y = a * Log_b(X) rule where Y is PR and X is linear significance. I beleive that Google changes 'a' and 'b' coefficients from time to time depending on different conditions such as number of Web pages in the world etc.

What should be significant for you is

    1) Value(PR4) / Value(RP3) for instance (it should be about 5 at the moment)
    2) Number of external links on a page
    3) Position of your link (closer to beginning is better)

As you see, initial question is not well-defined. The answer depends on these 3 factors. And even more.

if you wants to get high pr 7 links then you should go for banner advertising of purchasing a link on pr 7 home page.

It will be hard to achieve a link from PR7 page. Or there will be a lot of other external links.

Dont worry about page rank just get the link, By the time you have worked out if the link is worth having you could have already posted and moved to the next blog.
