A DP member has threatened me - what do I do?

A DP member asked me to pre-pay for a service I needed for my website.
    I reluctantly accepted.
5 days after the deadline he gave me, he still had not delivered the work.
He "offered" to do it by such and such a deadline, but then again, its been 5 days like this.

    i demanded a refund.
He wanted to pay only 2 days later.
I refused and demanded an immediate refund.

I also advised that should he not comply with the refund that i would be posting on his iTrader a negative mark.

He calls this ruining his rep.
I call it Protection Against Fraud.

He has not only NOT given me my refund but now has threatened by email (stupidly he put this in writing) to ruin my reputation on this forum.

    What do i do?

You should name and shame him so we can all send him abusive emails/PM's.

    do it, do it.

You should give him a last chance before comming out with him name.
Because what i feel is sometimes there may be some issues.
and if he still does not come down to help you out or refund you better post his name in public.

I think you should forget giving him a last chance. He should never have acted like that in the first place. It is bad form.

    Who is it?

As I said to Amitpatel via PM, of course i can provide his name here.
I would however like to give him a last chance to pay me what he owes me.

By posting your support here i am doing 2 things :
    a.
Protection - if I am forced to say who he is, place all the PMs and emails exchanged in public here for all to see, then this thread will be my way of protecting myself.

    b.
I will invite him to visit this thread so that he can see what others are saying, and hopefully scare him into paying me what I'm owed.

You must all remember that people can do all kinds of things to hurt me.
If he gets crucified in this forum, then he can possibly affect me and my work in other ways and in other places...right?

Is he in the same country as you?

If he's in Notts I'll pay him a visit.

Screen capture what you have to make a case against the person. You'll always get more support from people when you can provide good documentation of the claim you are making.

This would be good to do as well, in case the person tries extortion. Like saying they will take your site down, unless you pay money for protection, etc. Some weird people out there

Reading through the comments, it looks to me like the person is trying to work with you on this. It also seems maybe they have more work on their plate than can be handled at one time, which isn't uncommon with busy developers.

I'm certainly not going to take a side with this, but from what I read, it surely seems (with a little effort) that this could easily be worked out?

If this were me, I would edit your last post, remove the attached document and try and work it out.

    Ask the person:

Given your busy schedule, when could you devote enough of your time to finish my project?

As I have been set to a lower priority, can you set other customers to a lower priority for a few hours to complete my work?

Is there anything I can do to help you finish faster?

Please don't take my post the wrong way. I'm not going to take a side. It's just that from what I read, it seems to me like there is some room for this to end on a positive note with a little flexibility.

You should really also IM people like this when you have projects. Just my own suggestion.

I would give him until Monday to have everything completed. If not completed by Monday ask for refund and use the iTrader feedback, thats what its there for.

SVZ - Blame Yahoo? That's a strange suggestion...

I finally got my money back. Took 3 days but he refunded in full.
As for giving time...when someone demands a pre-pay for a job i say is urgent, I expect that he stick to his timeline. he had a whole 24hrs to assess the job requirements. So when he proposed a 5-6 hr timeline, i paid for it. i had to wait close to a week and even then the work was not completed.
Meantime, he was posting for others to "employ" him...this while he was supposedly trying to complete the project I prepaid for.

This was the second time I got into trouble with DP members I paid for a service to.
The first time, i thought, well its only 15 bucks, so I'll get over it. This second time I was NOT going to get screwed again.

I'd also like to state that a lot of people come to DP and other forums looking for people who can help them with programming, design, etc. If members consistently get "sloppy" (for want of a better word) then we're driving people away from this forum. Don't you think? And those who suffer the most are those who can find some good sources of income...

I refrained from naming the person and I also refrained from giving him a red on iTrader, and I told him this. I know how tough it is to start up a business and live off it. I gave the guy a real chance. He wound me up for far too long though, so I called for the refund.

    Thanks all for comments though.

The problem with Yahoo is that anything hosted on it is crippled...PHP runs in safe mode with all sorts of things disabled, which doesn't allow uploading, which is what you were trying to do from the sounds of it.

never pay for work before its done.. even with people you have worked with before
i have learnt the hard way many times
i will not deal with anyone who expects to paid before any work is done
    others should do the same

    Hi friends,

This is a very important post in DP as we all, the DP friend, come here to maintain a good and long lasting relation with each other (not to cheat any fellow member). But I am unable to understand that, beside requests/suggestions etc. from a number of members, why Jamie Lister is not revealing his name? It appears as much as he wants to alegate him, he wants to save him also.

Sorry for any mistake in my English.

I'm experiencing the same thing with the same programmer. Except instead of a week, it's nearing 2 months now.
