A DP Forum Member Trying to Skip Out on $144 Bill

Before I begin, apologies if this isn't the right place to post. I'm not mentioning user names so it should be kosher, but after 5 1/2 years of membership on the forum this is the first time I've had a problem with another user, so I'm not sure about the protocol.

I recently took on a copywriting assignment from a DP member in the Buy, Sell or Trade > Content forum. The value of the job was $144. It was a pain in the ass of a job and I hated every moment of it, but I produced excellent results ahead of deadline. Unfortunately, once I'd delivered the work the buyer vanished, and he has now refused to reply to my ever more angry emails for two weeks. Clearly he doesn't intend to pay.

I find work on a dozen or so sites, and there are some places I trust more than others. For some jobs I would insist on escrow, or deliver the job in small pieces with multiple payments. DP, though, I always trusted (or, at least, I trusted members who have been here several years and have solid feedback).

Anyhoo... I don't expect I'll ever see the money I'm owed, but does DP take an active role in policing things like this? i.e. Could I get this unpleasant person banned, so at the very least he'd have to start again from the beginning?

The really galling thing about this isn't so much the fact that some unprincipled fraction of a man cheated me out of a relatively small amount of money (though I could really use it right now), but that I did the job while sitting on the train from Beijing to Hong Kong, and rather than enjoy the ride and watch the scenery I wasted a day writing bloody water damage restoration articles for this nasty little person.

You know who you are. You are a solid gold douche.

Best to PM a mod with all the info you can with proof , hopfuly a mod will take the correct action upon that person that will not pay.
Only thing DP can do is bann the user.

That sucks big time.. I hope you had the soft sleeper not hard seat. I sent money to a fellow brit in Thailand for articles upfront as he needed the extra cash to pay bills...then...after over 6 months of excuses about him not being able to do the articles due to emergencies and then promising they would be finished the next night etc..in the end i finally gave up.... his loss !

I need articles on Asia topics all the time, might be a little more interesting than water damage restoration if your interested.

Haha, yes, I always go for the soft sleeper :) Not much of an improvement, though, as they squeeze 6 beds into a cabin on that particular train so you get about 20 inches clearance between the mattress and the ceiling. It's like 24 hours in a coffin :p

Yep, brits abroad in Thailand can be notoriously unreliable thanks to the existence of 50 baht bottles of Singha and sunshine outside. I'm living in Bangkok for the next six months or so, and I meet 'writers' every week who haven't done a lick of work since they arrived.

p.s. Sure, if you need Asian articles I'm probably your man. Send me a PM and we'll sort something out :)

p.p.s. Thanks for the tip, SKULL. I'll get in touch with a mod.
