A directory Idea

I have a directory idea that is very "long term"

I have a domain (4 years old already, indexed the entire time, 10 archive.org results I believe), and I was planning on doing a directory soon.

Submitting to the following PAYED directories:
    http://directory.v7n.com [PR6 Home, PR0 deep] [$50 one time]
    http://www.umdum.com [PR4 Home, PR2 deep] [$40 one time]
    www.avivadirectory.com [PR6 Home, PR4 deep] [$50/year]
    www.RubberStamped.org [PR4 Home, PR2 deep] [$30 one time]

$80 spent to buy PR backlinks on non-directories sites

Submitted to the following FREE directories:
675 directories that are homepage PR1 to PR6.

    Total cost: $250 + $50/yr (Aviva)
Time spent: Lots (675 manual directory submissions, and manual site reviews)

After completion of those, do you think I could "Easily" gain a 'good' pagerank, and make back that $250 + $50/yr, and make profits by just sitting on it and reviewing submissions for a year, or do you think I would be running in the negatives for the first year.

PS: This is an all-payed submission site.

If it's even 'break-even-able' I will probably invest that money.

My second question, is whether I should have it a ONE TIME fee, or a yearly fee. My personal choice would be one time, if it is not a lot of work making back that $250, and being able to get more than $50 worth of new submissions per year.

Sorry for all the questions about starting a directory, but I like to know things before I start something. :)

    Thanks!

Thanks for that, of course if I make back my initial payment, I have another $400-1000 ($400 to start) to invest.

I just don't want to go into directories blind!

The main question, I guess I am trying to ask, is will the things posted in the first thread give me enough page rank, or publicity, to be able to sell back links? Another question is, does using my 4 year old domain help a directory more, or should I save that for another site.

You could also consider buying a PR4 directory with internal PR if you are lucky you can find one for around $300

The page rank depends on the PR of the page where your site is listed.
I think in most of those free directories, your site would have been placed on PR0 or PR1 pages - may not help much..

You can definitely gain back your investment. Keep promoting and doing your best on directory.

Regular - permanent and Featured - yearly are recommended by most :)

    As for the payed:
    http://directory.v7n.com [PR6 Home, PR0 deep] [$50 one time]
    http://www.umdum.com [PR4 Home, PR2 deep] [$40 one time]
    www.avivadirectory.com [PR6 Home, PR4 deep] [$50/year]
    www.RubberStamped.org [PR4 Home, PR2 deep] [$30 one time]

If I skipped the free in general, would it be better or worse for the PR?

Personally I would skip the free directories and focus only on paid links.

    Ok. Thanks for your input.

    As for my previous question:
    Can anyone answer?

4 paid directories is not just enough to give your publicity.
As told earlier - PR depends on the page you are listed.

Domain age helps in higher SERPs - may not for PR..

Those will probably give you PR3 which is far from enough for a web directory.

If you submit to 10 of the best paid directories, you can probably gain a PR4.
