I added my directory to Wikitory the other day and i've gotten significant traffic to my site (at least for a directory link). Since i added my site on the 16th i've had 16 hits..
Looks like the Wikitory is brand new. There are no guidelines published on what is acceptable (deep links? multple links to the same site? duplicate links in multiple categories? etc.). There is no way to expand (or suggest changes to) the category structure.
The owner of the site is on DP, I saw the original intro post here on solicitations. It is strange that you got so many hits from the site because it is quite new. One of the blog pages I edited yesterday says it only had 79 visits (that is over around a 3 week period).
People need to NOT be tools and try to add listings above others. add yourself accordingly. i WAS beneath rowmow yesterday, but umm... yea, you can see what the person above me did. regardless, the links are nofollowed anywho...
Submitted my directory website just now and we will see the results tomorrow.I'll back to write reports on this. peicom
I've added my site, but I dont think much will come from it, alexa as not even ranked it. and then any deliquent can delete all the links made.
Actually, you can add new categories, just not on the main page. Works the same as adding a new page in wikipedia. Also, on any page you can organize the links, and that's an automatic suggestion that a new category could or should be made. For instance in 'internet' where it is clear a subcategory 'directories' would work. I do think this is an interesting endeavor. I'm a bit mixed about whether it's smart to have rel=no-follow links. On the one hand it may limit the amount of spam. On the other it may diminish the motive for webmasters to actually submit their stuff. If this is successful and people start actually copying the material, either automatically or manually - it would change the dynamics of the web considerably that there are rel=no-follow links on every page. They would also be copied onto all those other pages as well. For a links-directory it's pretty amateurish. Instead of having a database like structure, they have a page-based structure - like wikipedia. Which means that for instance the links do not get alphabetized automatically.
