Well I know I'm a bit not experienced with Directories & Websites and Such, but with Games & Video Games I am... I did alot of work for X-Gaming & the X-Arcade when I was living in Los Angeles... A friend and I did all the Retail Artwork for and all the E3 banner work for the X-Arcade... Video Games were more profitable than Hollywood Movies these past couple of years if I am not mistaken... I was and still am a Gamer in the days when *Video* was not even a Word yet, yeah the late 70's & early 80's... What I would do since most of you all ready have your Directories is at the Category *Games*... No Not Online Gambling Games (get Rid of those), Games, Blah Blah Blah... *Games*, then Subs like Board/Home Games (Family Games like Monopoly, etc.) Computer Games Console Games Online Games (this would include the Online Flash & others like The *G* word)... Keep it very simple and consistant so everyone can find things very easily.. The one thing that gets me is when I sign up for a directory I have to go looking in maybe 2 or 5 different places to find what I want to hopefully have my site linked to, No It's not in Computers, it's in Entertainment, No it's in Internet, no it's in Kids things, No it's in Umm, where the Hell is it??... Image how your visitors feel when they go to your site and try to find what they want.. Don't get me wrong I am so happy all of you have signed me up, but like anything it *Needs to be Simple* so everyone can find it... Again thanks guys...
I have been a gamer for most of my life thats why you can find game categories and very rare sub categories so check www.h-log.com and www.sbclansite.com If you want more subcategories let me know
I think I am signed up with ya.. hehe But thanks... (Thank you)... I just think it needs to *Be Simple so it is Simple to Find*...
Thanks for the suggestion Keith. I had a few subs under games in my directory, but added two of your suggestions I did not have: http://www.dirmoz.com/recreation/recreational-games/ I know you've submitted a site or two here, if any are not listed or you would like them moved into one of the categories I created, just let me know in a PM.
We do have "GAME" category and sites too. 1) http://www.a1directorysearch.com/di...ltimedia/Flash_and_Shockwave/Games/index.html 2)http://www.a1directorysearch.com/cgi-bin/dir/search.cgi?query=games&Go=Go 3) http://www.bhanvad.com/directory/Recreation_and_Sports/Games/Video_Games/Internet_Games/ 4) http://www.bhanvad.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?keywords=games
I have Computer Games as a Top category with PR3 on the interlink: http://www.global-weblinks.com/serier.asp?typeid=5&N=Computer_Games
Just submitted to yours DirectoryFreak... Thank you... But still what you have to understand is *Video Games* are a Category unto themselfs whether they be Computer or Console... They need to be *By Themselfs* just like Business/Entertainment/Family etc. etc. with Sub Categories.. ***Video Games*** Computer/PC Games (Subs) Abandoned Games/Old DOS Games/Windows Games Console Games (Subs) Playstation/Xbox/Dreamcast/GameCube Online Games (Subs) Arcade/Flash/Gambling etc.. I'll see if I can narrow this down tomorrow and make it more understandable and post my list again..
Yeah you are absolutely right. I think every directory should have a sitemap or a tree-structure of categories & sub-categories so that one can easily find out where to go. I am looking for a free software to make a tree-category structure or a sitemap creator.
In my directory I have several gaming resources, you can check them here.. http://www.dirspace.com/dir/45.php
Thats where the real difficulty lies in the category. To solve this either you must link different sections using symbolic link or related category link. For example, if you have standard path to /Computers/Games/PC/ and if someone wants to online shop games which is listed at /Shopping/Games/../ you have to link both either using a symbolic link or related link. I often refer DMOZ and analyze them how well they classify the web using related and symbolic link.
Nice ideas there about games, etc. WIll tomorrow (actually today now) about doing that to a directory or two of mine. Thank you.
You can enter your emails and find out at http://www.a1directorysearch.com/cgi-bin/dir/user.cgi?email_pass=1 if above url not helpfull send us your email address and site url in Private message we will check that for you.
That's only really going to be useful for a directory with few categories. Once there are several hundred, that gets a bit unwieldy. One thing I find useful is when the search points you back to which category a site is in. So that way you could search for "games" and get an idea of where the games sites are listed. It's not just the games category that has this problem. I've submitted sites on various of different topics, and there's always a lot of guesswork involved when it comes to trying to figure out where they are meant to go.
I have a Games and Fun category in my directory: http://ipage.info/Games-and-Fun/ It is further broken down into Computer Games, Video Games, Online Games, etc.
http://www.tipdirectory.com All for games, gamers, etc. If there are any categories I left out, let me know. As for sub-categories, at present will leave them out. It just looks better for categories alone. Can always create new categories. Thank you.
