Stox, I don't think anyone is denying what's in the Koran. For the same reason that Jews aren't stoning adulterers anymore, though it's in the Torah, etc., all I can tell you is that I have gone over this with a good many Muslims, and I have found most, like people everywhere, to be reasonable people who want to live their lives in peace. My conversations on this board, for one, helped me to come to this. There's enough hate going around to last several lifetimes, and it comes from everywhere.
I agree. It is essential. Therefore, while muslims cut the heads of the infidels-non muslims because it is what the qu'ran ask them to do (talk about unrespect), I'm gonna enjoy this movie on youtube right now...
I respect your opinion and that you have every right to it. As I said there are freedom of speech and expression. Enjoy the movie.
Stox, we've had this discussion. I'm not into revisiting theology here - i.e., our previous discussions on whether Hitler could rightfully be called a Christian, based on the Christian text, etc. I'm into discussing the real world impact of what people do. The subject is whether Muslims, as a group, accept Sayyid Qutb's notions, and how they've been played out in the murderous designs of Al Qaeda and company. I have found they do not.
Don't know yet. As I write, I haven't seen the movie. If this is a kind of movie like the Twin towers, Korean guy getting beheaded with a knife and alive, etc, etc...then I won't see it. I have enough of all this intolerance... Thank you
It's all about that and it's all over internet what's in it and you've said you gonna enjoy it... makes me go hummmmmmmmmmm
And I'm sure your wife or girlfriend never experienced the joy of being in a Morrocan beach wearing a swin suit in the middle of moderate Muslims... If yes (did she survive the lapidation?), imagine what can do fundamentalists...
Oh, so there is nothing new I guess. Another movie about islamic intolerance? Well, we can't blame them, they just follow what's in the Qu'ran after all... My concern is always the same: why muslims are emigrating to western countries, countries that are asimilated to devil for them?
I consider what you're doing to be out of line. I understand your concerns regarding the treatment of women in Islamic societies - as I have raised some concerns myself - but I consider your approach here wrongheaded. Wisdom, you've done the right thing. The approach taken in the Wiki issue was the wrong thing. All of us need to extend a hand, and not a cudgel.
I'm in to discussing the real world impact what people do based on what they think god wants. If someone really is a muslim how can they be against killing for reasons condoned in the quran? And if they are against killing for reasons condoned in the quran can they really be a muslim? It's impossible to make the claim that the people who kill for reason condoned in the quran don't "represent islam".
I agree. But one word makes your point senseless: the one in bold. Because it'll never happen. It's in the book...
It's been in the Book since its inception, just as violence (and, usually, the prescription to do violence) has been in virtually every religious text known to man. Given that, if this is "endemic" to Islam and muslims generally - the question isn't 9/11/01, but why not before? And why not a mass movement of the 1.5 billion people? 1.5 billion people, 1/5 of the planet - are you kidding me? With the prescription to do violence? What the hell has stopped it, over the last several centuries? Think again, Cody. It just doesn't make sense.
Again, these are theological questions. In other words, I don't know. I know most of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims don't kill, any more than most of world Jewry doesn't either, although prescriptions can be found in the Torah. The former call themselves Muslims, and the latter still call themselves Jews. And so on, for many of the world's religions. In the absence of violence among religious folks whose religious texts contain such prescriptions, asking: Is a question of theology, really, an academic discussion, and I'm just not really interested. (At least not now - as I said, we have discussed this, in great detail, in the past).
I watched the film last night. It showed the events of 911 and other terrorist attacks. With these terrorists, Islam was a huge part of their life and they thought they were doing the will of Allah. Why?
Rebecca, just a suggestion - but have you looked into wahabism, the Muslim Brotherhood, Sayyid Qutb, among others? If not, these may help provide some answers to your question above.
Wow, OP, I had never even heard of this. I'm going to go check it out now since you said not to. Because... reverse psychology is lost on you, and telling me I shouldn't see something... I'm going to do it.
My call for Wikipedia to "censor themselves" (read: use some discretion) was no different than what WT is proposing here. You make it sound like I was leading a movement to pressure Wikipedia, when on the contrary, I was spit-balling ideas at DP to alleviate tension over the issue of the prophet image. This is a lot of hot air and nonsense. And you damn well know it NPT. If you're trying to accuse me of endorsing that others exercise discretion, and look to find solutions to confrontations short of boycotts and negative publicity, then I am guilty as charged. To insinuate anything else, would be more of the same weak misleading slander I put up with in the Gay Marriage thread, where you implied I am a racist and neo-confederate for opposing the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
