Fellow members, if someone rips you off - how about posting a negative review?? Was ripped off for the second time yesterday and am stunned by the number of people who told me they were too. Let's help each other out and report these clowns asap.

I bought a number of PR6 sites (which I'm now nervous about) which were transferred over without problem the day before. The email address for paypal matched that on whois and in the screenshots he sent. The first two PR6s were sold and I paid half after the first was sent, half for the second (there was a banking issue so I actually paid $100 to hold them, then the balance in two stages!). In fact he even asked if I could make one large payment to pay for the second domain and refunded (ie cancelled) my holding deposit in order to make less payments??? He sent the cancellation through, i was credited, so I sent the full amount - all good!

The next day i enquired about a similar themed domain, same price and he said would throw in a third domain (similar theme) as part of the package. The second transactions involved another PR6 and a PR5 the first of which were also transferred without issue.

For this transaction, he provided a screenshot again within godaddy domain manager (from within the same account) so i sent the agreed price and he said he would push the PR8 (from which most of the link juice for the two sites come from, hence my enthusiasm to get it - plus an awesome sit ein its own right!). The whois is registered to someone in india and it seems that the original owner - a university, moved from this PR8 (the .net) to the .com a few years ago (although many pages still had the old link). In other words, regarding the PR8 site, the fact that the domain was for sale and seemed geniuine not to mention the fact that it is still currently parked with godaddy

He asked for the second transaction to be paid into a different paypal account (consistent with his first story about not wanting too many transactions in his first paypal account (some of my phillipino outsource workers make the same request)). Both were registered paypal accounts but after 30 mins of the push for the PR8 not coming (and him going offline from Digital Point) I put in a dispute for the full amount and he immediately jumped back online and was abusive, claiming I was ripping him off. He promised to push the PR8 as soon as i released the money and sent the bonus domain through in advance to show good faith (PR5).

I waited about an hour, the main domain was never pushed so I disputed the payments for the first two sites (the original PR6s I had bought the day before without issue). He jumped back online with a story about being out and computers going down, was even more angry (which was more convincing to me) and suggested i returned the domains for a full refund. I said no, he asked me to release one of the initial payments, promised to push and has disappeared again. So he is short one (relatively small) payment and paypal doesnt allow more than one dispute per transaction (deplspite him telling me I could via phone if I didn't get the domains). But up $1700 if all the other domains stay mine.

Now considering reporting the account as having had unauthorised use, just to stop him from gettig the money?

In short, the few small red flags were easily explained away - he had 11 poisitive itrader reviewers although, I looked closer afterwards and most were for work he had other people do for him and none were for domain sales. Greed and the fact that he was so ballsy to come back and try and get the rest of the money had me thinking he was genuine - live and learn.

    Next time I use escrow!

Wow, this is tough. I'm considering more and more to just forget buying domains on DP. There are plenty of great domains to go around.

Screw this. I'm sticking to GoDaddy, SnapNames, and NameJet.

I was also scammed the past week here in DP.. I was the buyer then. Now I am very very hesitant when it comes to buying domains/sites here in DP. I always check the iTrader, the domain whois, to the point of emailing the contact of the domain/site that is for sale..

Just a few days ago, someone was selling to me a PR 5 site at a cheap price. I contacted the site and they told me the site is not for sale... If I had not done what I did, I'd be scammed the second time here in DP.

    So few pointers I've learned:

    1. If the selling price is too good to be true, one must investigate even more.
    2. Do not use personal payments unless you fully trust the seller.
    3. Use escrow for bigger transactions.
    4. Check the seller's itrader. Don't just check the number of transactions. Check the details of the feedback and the persons giving the feedback. There are many of these scammers here in DP. They give each other positive itraders.. You know what i mean.
    5. Don't buy too many domains/sites from one seller all at one. This lessens your chance of getting scammed at huge amounts.
    6. Some scammers show good faith by pushing the domains first, but don't be fooled. Keep your guard and be careful always even with those you have full trust. Many DP accounts of members of good itraders have been hacked. So we have to be very careful..

WOW, this must have been a major scam. Go Daddy have pretty much taken back the domains, issued a refund and think the issue is closed with no explanation to me??!!

The guys who ran the scam had even manipulated the WHOIS databases to make it seem genuine and that the the first of the paypal accounts I was sending to was the legitimate owner. Similarly, the domain that they didn't deliver on lsusports.net, was registered to other people (even when I did the archive.org check it seemed that no new data had been posted in the last few years - which had made me think someone had let the domain drop and they had transferred all of the new content to the lsusports.com site (which is where some of the links on the LSU.edu site linked to!))! Here's what was listed in whois (so glad I kept a copy!)

After reading above that members accounts here can even be hacked - I'm not quite sure how to buy domains safely from DP anymore??? This lesson seems to have cost me 3K in total - gonna be gunshy for a while now! Not even sure what the lesson here is (since even buying from established people may not be enough since accounts can be hacked!)

Normally sound advice, but in this case, they had somehow manipulated the whois directory so i thought i was contacting and paying the actual owner!

I suggest you to use escrow.com for even 100$ transaction and for higher amounts as well.Buy domains on digitalpoint from Trusted PR domain sellers like bloggeranand,PRDomainace, efrata, warteg and other reputed members who usually sell domains each time. One more thing is you can take care is you can buy from Godaddy auctions,Namejet or Snapnames.

Always before buying check who.is about original owner, check seller Itraders, his posts, persons who gave him feedback and while dealing with untrusted persons never use Paypal balance always use credit card.So If you got scammed sometimes,If you open dispute on sellers Paypal via CC,there are 100% chances of getting money back.I few months back got scammed by someone to whom I sended money via Paypal balance and He scammed me so I opened dispute on his Paypal and Paypal rejected my dispute case saying that domains are unauthorized transactions :)

I hope my tips would help other dp members :)
