A Blog or Web Directory? Who will make a steady and better income?

    Hi,

    1. A Blog: It is setup for revenue from:

    Product Reviews
    Text Ads
    Kontera
    etc

The Blog has a Page Rank 6 and easily comes up in the first 20 searches in Google and gets about 300 visitors everyday.

    2. A web directory: It is setup for revenue from:

    Featured Listings
    Sponsor Listings
    Regular Listings
    Banner Ads
    etc

The Directory has a Page Rank 6 and easily comes up in the first 20 searches in Google and gets about 300 visitors everyday.

I am not only looking for an answer but a discussion of some sort. There are many of you here with long experience in both the fields. Which one do you think is a consistent and better money maker? Whcih one do you think can start off making money relatively faster?

    Please pen down your thoughts.

    Thanks

where ever you can MORE steadily produce/create new unique content,
that's where you get a more steady revenue!

it's never a question whether a forum/directory or blog shows up in the top 20 or top x in G but whether you can create top 10 SERPS for each new unique content article you publish.

hence the final question is how SE-friendly is your blog or directory SW to fully SEO each individual article posted to attract the generic visitors that ultimately are the source of ad revenue.

Yes, I agree. As far as I have seen, both of them average about 300-350 visitors/day.

In the long-term I say blog. You can however add both a blog and a directory.

with such a low traffic however I never would waste any idea/time of which system to chose but rather start producing unique in daily quantities of unique value content to create a traffic several dozen times what you have now.
my own adsense advertising revenue started to create peace of mind by the time i exceeded 8-10k unique visitors/d average traffic.

keep in mind that a site with low traffic has near zero value for any kind of purpose no matter the PR - for product reviews its the number of visitors that may eventually turn into purchasing clients that count as much as for any other purpose of earning money from a site. it is the generic popularity to reach out to large numbers of relevant visitors attracted by generic means such as SE SERPS that creates a real value for advertisers or site customers.

Er, starting a Web site is MUCH more than that. Do a competitive analysis. Get projected start up costs, running costs, and long term costs. Consider opportunity cost, because a blog is probably going to take more time to rurn than a directory. Write a SWOT. Good luck!

In my opinion blogging is time consuming than directory so a directory is better in this case. But signingup for a Paid listings in a web directory depends on the visitor. Most people still love Free directories. In the case of blogs you can control the income. For a PR6 blog you can get reviews upto $400. You can get more income from Payperpost etc etc(here are some options by which you can maximize your blog's income). So a blog is a great way to generate income compared to directory.

Yes Hans, I so much agree with you. If there is no traffic, there actually is no point no matter what PR or Google ranking. What I am narrowing down here is what can provide a better income. Does the blog have more income streams to have or does the directory?

Just so you know, I dont have either. I am starting in about a week from now and looking for solid opinions to decide whether I will start off with a blog or directory.

I hope I am very clear now.

I come from the value you are creating.

End users rarely use directories, but they REALLY use blogs.

So, in the Long Term, a blog.

If you are looking for a quick buck, then maybe a directory.

But don't chase the quick buck because then you'll always be chasing the easy money and never really be able to relax and make money without working.

I finally made a decision and went with phplinkdirectory.com script. I initially wanted to go with phplynx, but I decided phpld because it has a feature for articles which a bit modified I am sure can be made to look like a blog that can have useful information, as well as be monetized. And yes, I am not looking at PR number. I plan to get some genuine SEO work done and keep somebody who can maintain the SEO for the site always. Luckily I found someone good.

rawweb, no I am not in for the quick buck, but am looking at build a solid ground in 6 months, and establish a good income source in 1 year.

This is a 2 in 1 approach I am giving. Any advise?

Can you qualify that comment rawwebdesign? Can you back up your claim that the 'end user' is more likely to go to a blog than a directory? General directories maybe well saturated but niche one's aren't so maybe a bit of homework done before you make comments that directory owners are only in it for the quick buck is out of order and certainly innacurate.
