A bit of an odd niche

    Howdy there!

I have a friend which is passionate about astrology and is actually a pretty accomplished writer as he is in charge of the horoscope column in a major national magazine. The thing is he wants to make a bit more out of it and is looking for online gigs. Any idea where prospective buyers could be found?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards, George

    Hi,

Articles. If he publishes a few articles he will be able to get a feel for the market and if there are any "buyers". The people won't be buying with money but initially with their contact details in order to get some free information from him

If there are no takers he would need to rethink things a little.

A suggestion that works for the clients I work with who have what I consider to be "weird" niches is to get an information product created. Being interviewed on the subject is the easiest way to get it done.

    That's a quick response Articles>Response/No or little response/Information product.

    Cheers

Paranormal, Occultism, Metaphysics, Pagan and Gothic Networks, all of them have their own communities in which your friend can find available jobs or post his writing offer ;)

I imagine the more entertainment type of online magazines would like something like that. Redbook, GQ and things like that. Does he have the Writer's Market online subscription? There's a section just for online consumer markets. Or you can probably just find a list of popular online magazines and check out the sections individually.

See if About.com or iVillage still has someone for their Astrology section.

If you know your niche and topic, there's room for everyone on the internet.

What about The Mountain Astrologer? That's one of the top astrology magazines. :) If he's a good writer and loves astrology - I bet they'd love to hear from him.

sometimes old could be the new gold if it is presented to the audience in a never seen before kind of way or if it provokes the readers mind with its controversial content

Just write articles and a few advertisements here and there (eg. on Facebook there are many astrology thingys) will be great.

    Good Luck! :)

I agree, community networks in Paranormal, Occultism, Metaphysics, Pagan and Gothic is the way to go. Just go to Google.com and search for the communities and start participating in them.

Online, his best bet would be to search for some of the "Psychic" websites. Many of these sites are always on the lookout for new (and experienced) horoscope writers. Simply have him create a digital portfolio of his best pieces, and send them via email along with a winning cover letter to the head of each site he finds.

    Best of luck!
