Hi; I have developed a problem that I cannot understand at all. I am looking for any explanation that I can get. First let me describe my lack of expertise on this subject, for any answers will have to be in the most simplified mode possible. I am a retired trucker who in my retirement has tried to build a web site about my life on the road, (mostly to keep out from under my wife’s feet). I have finally graduated to using 2 fingers (one on each hand) on the keyboard. My PC Dr. installed Front Page for me to play with, and roughly pointed me in the right direction. (Trial & error) I am in total ignorance of HTML & all the short form letters in cyberspace talk. I have to rely on what you see is what you get format. My first attempt at invading the world of HTML was to enter a code at the bottom of the page to add colour to the slide bars. The code instructions I work with were given to me with the placement locations. (Copy & paste) Using the same one over and over worked well for me in the beginning. I just changed the colour code to get a particular match for the page in question. Now after wasting most of your time on an introduction, here is my problem……….. Recently I entered colour codes on pages that I had missed. I checked them all out on Internet Explorer and every one is fine. I have 3 other browsers to check with and found that 3 or 4 pages do not show the coloured slide bars, but instead at the bottom of the page, the entire HTML CODE for the slide bars are displayed. All the other pages display properly. WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG THIS TIME????? PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN! One of the pages with the problem is here, ROAD OF DEATH. --- Scroll to the very bottom of page for a sample of my problem. http://www.thedieselgypsy.com/Road%20of%20Death.htm Thank you and hopefully you may be able to help me out with this problem. --- Diesel Gypsy.
Im not sure (im not good at HTML) but i think you have to put <STYLE id=PopupStyle> BODY{ SCROLLBAR-3DLIGHT-color:#463e1e; SCROLLBAR-arrow-color:#463e1e; SCROLLBAR-Darkshadow-color:#463e1e; SCROLLBAR-face-color:#cc2229; SCROLLBAR-Highlight-color:#dddddd; SCROLLBAR-shadow-color:#800000; SCROLLBAR-track-color:#280000} Font-Family:"trebuchet MS";FONT-SIZE:14pt;color=#000000;} .tabrd{border-right:6px none window-inset; border-left:6px outset #; border-top:6px outset #; border-bottom:6px none window-inset;} </STYLE> Code (markup): between the <head> and </head> tags
ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM. My problem with the slide bar colour has been resolved. Thanks to the member MY RULE’s entry I compared my HTML to his and after beating my head against the wall for an hour, found my mistake. When copying to paste the HTML for the slide bar, I copied all but the last word, --- </STYLE> --- The colours worked fine on Internet Explorer, but without the one word </STYLE> at the end, the colours would not show up on a different brand of browser. I used OPERA to find my problem and rectified it. Thanks for the help, --- Diesel Gypsy.
Those are some pretty scary photos you have there on your site. And the devil image looks really good. Hope you learn HMTL fast and become and expert at it Good Luck
Hi HDaddy; I have a couple browsers other than Internet Explorer to see how my web site displays. Opera shows the colour bars, as well as the AVANT (probably because it is based on the IE engine). Firefox is another browser that I test with; it does not display the slide bars in colour. --- Slowly, bit by bit I am advancing my knowledge. Next, I will try and find out why Firefox shows some hidden table lines and not others, as well as some hidden link underlines show up when most of the others don’t. I’ll keep searching --- Diesel Gypsy.
You should visit http://w3schools.com/ it has all the basic html and more you need. And i actually didn´t know that opera supports as well the color bars. Maybe it´s using the same engine.
Great Images there...Well i am also new to all this web building side and hope i will get help from this forum..
