Thanks for that maverick - that was very enlightening. I wouldn't be surprised to see it work well.

What exactly is different about that compared to similar spamming on any forum, message list, blog, etc.. ?? Ho-hum. It's not your site that gets the ranking - it's the Google Answers page.

That said, it's not a bad way to get listed up there.

That's an interesting find Maverick! I haven't noticed any "Google Answers" showing up high in the SERPs for our industry, Real Estate, but I'm sure there are many who can benefit from this idea.

I am also very anxious to test this. Have you read the example stated by the Author... about 'LED Board'.. It seems it was in google search for few days, its not there now. But yeah, having your keyword searched and your comment page at #2, is just exciting. Simply a lot of advertising for free and tons of traffic for popular keywords.

Right, but they don't say anything about the comments. I think they will be filtering these out soon enough though. The word is out, ready for people to abuse.

Why wouldn't they simply use the nofollow tag on comments?

It would make sense that it would work, but how successfully I don't know.. Keep in mind the example they give gets about 2 searches per day.

I could be mistaken, but I think the gist of the article is to indirectly get to page one by pulling people to the google answers post relating to your topic--or perhaps your comment to be on the first page if you're lucky. The no follow attribute could be applied, but it would do nothing as the article is speaking about back door to top of the serps. I don't think it makes your site appear on theh first page...but I could be wrong.

In effect it also adds another competitor for your term (and a very powerful one at that). Not so great if your own site/pages is in pos#10 for the term already.

    This loophole works because--

    1) Google LOVES itself.

    2) Google trusts that expert researchers are going to lead searchers to the right tools.

Do you have any proof of it working for a competitive term?

http://answers.google.com/answers/ is pr9 but do any of the questions/answer pages have any pr? Maybe this could also send out pr but not likely.
I've tried it with a couple terms/sites and am already receving traffic from the post, so it doesn't hurt to try.

When I do keyword research, I hardly ever see a Google Answer's post in the top ten of the SERPs.

The reason I mentioned why not use the nofollow attribute is for the back links purposes when posting a comment, since over time that Answer's page will fall off the top of the SERPs, but the backlink will still count. If you REALLY want to start flooding the answers will advertised links (call it what you will) then have at it, but I don't think you'll find much traffic coming back at you in most cases. None the less, good discussion topic.
