I'm not 100% sure if this is the correct board to post this question on. If I have made a mistake, please forgive me! My question is about subdomains and search engines. If I re-direct subdomain.mydomain.com to mydomain.com/subdomain... will the search engines be bothered by the re-direct? I've been debating whether I should just rebuild the blog that is under the /subdomain to a proper subdomain.mydomain.com --or -- can I just leave it where it is and re-direct the subdomain.mydomain.com to the /subdomain. Will the search engines care? Hope that made sense! Your input is gratefully appreciated! CJ
why do you want to rebuild your blog under a new sub domain? just re-optimise your current blog and build links to it. Maybe im missunderstanding your question. if you do redirects just make sure they are 301s so that your page rank follows to the new page.
301's! Yes! I'd forgotten about that. Thank you! Actually, if I don't have to move it, I won't! But I'm concerned about search engine reactions to it. What I understand about domain names is that search engines value what comes BEFORE the first "dot." In other words, mykeywordrichsubdomain.mydomain.com is more valuable to search engines than mydomain.com/thesamesubdomain. So, that's why I've been considering moving--or re-directing. Thanks for your input! CJ
