How many times should a keyword/phrase be inserted into a page, that the page is on? I mean i cant obviously include the keyword 50 times, as SEs won't like that. whats the approx amount i should include my keyword in my keyword pages ? For example If I have a site on pets with 4 pages, Heres my 4 the pages -Dogs, -cats, -horses, -Tropical goldfish Now, Page 4 on goldfish, how many times should the keyword "Tropical goldfish" be displayed on that single page ? I mean if you Overdo it, and include it 50 times on the page, the SE's will get suspicious, so how many times should it be included ? 10, 20, 30 ? i know this number would vary per SE. but anyone know a good number of times to include a keyword on a page ?
Thanks. It is not a sales copy, but just a content page, on tropical fish. How do you work out this 3%- 7% ? Count all the words, count how many times you included the keyword in the page, and just do the % maths? or is there a tool which tells you how many times a keyword is included on a HTML homepage ?
OK, for instance you have 100 words in your copy, it recommended to use 5-7% keyword density. 5% - 5 primary keywords/keyword phrases 7% - 7 primary keyword/keyword phrases The perfect way is this: 7 keywords on the site (metas, links, headers) 3-4 keywords in your copy! target, 1-3 keywords per page (max) Guidlines for writing content: 1. write minimum between 800-1000 characters (not words) of content for each page 2. Mention the primary keyword at least 5 times (7-8 is even better) and others 2-3 times in the content on that page 3. Try to mention each keyword phrase (exactly) in the content You can use Winword to calculate character ammoun of content Rule of thumb: keyword mentioned 4-5 for every 800 character (4.8% keyword density)
So lets say if you have like 9%, what would be the side effect? Would you just get banned or penelyzed in the SERPS?
Heres how you can boost your keyword density. "I am a goldfish expert, I know a lot about goldfish, because goldfishes are my friends." No seriously, include the keyword only if it reads well, not for the sake of SEO, your writing for your audience not search engines.
Excellent advice, ewan. What you have to remember is that it is the goal of every SE to rank pages with natural content as the best. If you try to "fool" the search engines and happen to hit upon the right formula and get good results, the next time they tweak their algorithm, you could find you site wiped out of the SERPs. The better SE algorithms get, the more natural text will be important. If you're in this for the long run, write real content that actual people want to read.
