How do you make 2 xml files writable? using the CHMOD method?

It is for the instruction for the wordpress google sitemap plugin...

Here is the instruction I am having difficulty understanding....

    2. Make your blog directory writeable OR create two files named sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz and make them writeable via CHMOD In most cases, your blog directory is already writeable.

How do I make my wordpress blog directory writable? or make them 2 files writable via CHMOD? What is CHMOD ?

N.B The plugin has been acticavated on my plugin wordpress control panel.

    Get back please...

Using ftp, cPanel or your control panel set the permission for those two files to 755. If that does not work try 777. Don't use the 777 unless you absolutely have to do so.

    The 755 is more secure.

Writable means it must be 666 or 777. Use your ftp software to make it 777.
