    I was interested to see reference made to a "999 Penalty". This happened to one of my sites a little while ago. I had a forum where I was copy pasting interesting articles with a credit and a link back to the source and I assumed it was a duplicate content penalty. I no followed the link from the main page and it has recently popped back into the serp's.

    Where can one find out more info on these sort of penalties? Are they auto triggered or manually applied after an alert? Why would Google deem, what is essentially scrapbooking, a practice that justifies penalising the home page?
