9259 sites linking to a picture on my site, does it help?

I recently submitted a funny picture to reddit.com and it hit the front page and really took off. It's currently on 9259 sites and blogs.

But does this help me at all? They aren't linking to my site, just a picture hosted on my site.

    Thanks.

The only thing I noticed was it attracted lots of search engine spiders. No extra traffic or anything though.

It is great if spyders come. Wait some time and you will get some traffic from some xy search engines.

if these sites are linking only the hosted image thats means no credits to you, you are just wasting your bandwidth

Replace the image with a hot image and your websites name below it, you can get tonnes of traffic back :p

Well the site is http://deals.tc and the picture is http://deals.tc/funny.jpg
So it realy has nothing to do with hot women. I guess I could put a watermark on the image. Anyone know a free online watermarking site?

Just throw it in photoshop, put some text on it, and then adjust the transparency to your liking.

I would do that if I were you. Sites linking to your image will just eat up your bandwidth. If you do a redirect to say, the article with the image, then you'll get the traffic and revenue that you worked for to deserve. :)

    Lmao.. what a good picture.

I wouldnt redirect to your site because then everyone would take your picture off of their site.

I have noticed some sites linking a picture of mine showing up as backlinks in yahoo. It makes sense. If a link is counted as a vote for a site, why not if someone finds one of your pictures good enough to stick it on their own site.

A redirect would work, but I do think enough decent webmasters will take the trouble of finding the page the picture is on and linking to that. This is good PR all the way. [edited: except for black people who may well be offended by this picture]
