That is the tough 1 really. Figuring out who to believe on any given subject. Learning right from wrong on your own is always the best way to figure out something, but I just don't have the time. I have to believe in somebody until I can learn to clone myself to work 48 hours a day.

 

I think for pinpoint advice, regarding specific problems, DP is not as good as other forums.

DP is good for advice of a more..... general nature....you get lots of these without fail.

 

I believe we are looking at the wrong strategy here.

It is not important to decide "who" to believe. Appeal to Authority is one of the classical logical fallacies.

What we should focus on is determining "what" to believe. That is not dependent upon reputation, that is dependent upon scientific testing and verifiable proof.

Believe nothing; test everything.

My problem though is that I simply don't have the time, resources, and talent to test everything myself. that leaves me to accept what some people say.

But the point is great. Don't believe anything until you see it yourself.

Im a full time SEOer and the level of 95% of the advice on most forums is simply appalling.

 

It's a bit of a different story for me. SEO is the closest thing I have to a full-time job.

Well, the advice might be suspect from time to time that true with any free advice. At least they are not riding rough shod like some of the other forums.

Let's get this straight...there are no SEO guru's..PERIOD! Why? Because Google are ultimately clever enough to keep everyone guessing..the only things that work for your site are things that Google are not focussing on at that time..LOL...we are all in the giant whirlpool of question marks when it comes to guessing what are the right things to do to get our web site/s noticed by the big "G".

All I can say is "ride the crest of the wave whilst you can before it dumps you on the sand and coral. Then go find a new wave!!"

In my brief experiences in this little internet world, I must say that this is the truest statement that sums everything up. When one company (evil G) has the power to lift up or destroy any internet business without explanation, you simply can not survive online unless you are willing to find new waves. It's disgusting, scary, and very real. In my opinion, the "online winners" are those that gamble big and dump sinking ships before they completely capsize. You just have to be willing to have your hands in many sites, and know when to brush off one that is doomed. Same thing goes with seo (in my non-educated opinion) really, because the rules of the game (as defined by THE search engine monopoly) are always changing. I swear that I have never been involved in any industry which changes with such rapidity. Worse yet, everything seems to be hidden in shadows.

What a weird world the online web is!
