Hello, With the success of this post I decided to continue the trend and create a new article on Directory Kit, which is 9 Things To Learn From Alive Directory To Make Your Directory More Successful. Ones again, I was not paid by Alive Directory owner to review his directory, I am just talking about his directory to help you improving your own. Sneak Preview: (5 out 9 things) Please comment and full article can be seen here.
Very nice again splash However, i disagree with point 1 Google will not give nice looking sites with nice content high PR. its all about backlinks.
Some of the comments are more personal preference, such as avoiding darker web directory designs (I think dark designs have their place too), but thank you for taking the time to review the directory. It is much appreciated. Best of luck with your projects.
Oh yeah i forgot about that bit. www.avivadirectory.com <<< lovely design, but used a dark color. I prefer light but dark can work well too.
Hey Great Post splash, @Chris, Love the new look of the directory Reminds me of the standard drupal look Nice and clean , just like all mysticmedia's product line
Haven't been active in the last couple of weeks on the forums and I'm delighted with the new Alive's look. Congrats to Chris. I think Alive should be a model for all of us. The way Chris understand to maintain and promote his directories should be an example for everyone in the business. I'm not Nostradamus but if Chris carry on this way I clearly see Alive becoming the best web directory online within the next 24 months or so... Well done Chris
The OP said target the word web directory Yes I and everybody should learn from alivedirectory. Nice read.
good post! though the design update just before the PR update has not real meaning! apart from that, i guess everything is nice! Alive directory is a role model, and i guess most directory owner follows it!
I agree with refraining from the use of word "links",.... i read this some else too,....some SEO forum, if you need to make a page for reciprocal links in your website name is resources.php or something,....anything except "links.php",.... i had removed "links" (word) from various places from my directory,.... just sat down and removed the rest still riging my mind for captchas though,.... will tackle this next! Thanx ...gr8 OP Regards, M.
Great post, but some people prefer dark colors over light colors. I think it would be better to let the visitors choose the directory theme that they like from a drop down menu or something (if possible).
