I agree. Taxes are too high here as well. Thanks for mentioning that. I'm not sure what your point is. I agree that certain states have exorbitant tax rates. I wouldn't live in a state with an income tax. I also wouldn't live in one with a high sales tax one either. See, I have a choice.

In a top down, federal system, you are forced into systems where the choices are made for you. I dunno about you; but I want to make my own choices in life.

Do you seriously believe that government has the right to seize 60% of what you earn? I call it a mugging, what do you call it?

Goods tax. You mean sales tax? That doesn't apply to your income. It applies to what you spend. There's a difference. State income taxes can only affect a certain % of your income, not all of it. You can get a deduction based on your living arrangements (single, married, divorced) and the income tax is also scaled. So if you are at 35% and 9.3% you aren't giving up 44.3% of your income. You are giving up - say 20% of your earnings from 0-40,000, then 30% of your earnings from 40,0001 to 100,000 etc etc.

Here's how the state income tax works in GA:

I call it dumb government employees mismanaging our funds and then having the nerve to ask for more instead of trying harder.

    NO, I'm happy about it!

What you think? And what does that have to do with taxmoney being wasted in general.

I still dont see where you get the 60% figure from then....please explain that.

I do agree that taxes are too high (in both US and UK) and that is why I want troops out of Iraq immediately.

Also, you need to remember that the 60% (or anything close to it) only applies to less than 1% of the population. It is more likely to be around 35% (which is still too high IMHO)

So you think your tax rates will drop if troops are brought home? Did your taxes go up when they were sent over? Doubtful. Come on.

Let's say your tax rate is 35% and you make 50,000/year. Do you think you could possibly find good health insurance that costs less than 15,000 per year? Government = inefficiency. Always.

Look at denmark in my wiki link earlier. 59% is the high rate. Add VAT to that. Miscellaneous taxes, etc and you will far surpass an overall rate of 60%.

Maybe they wont drop but the money wasted on war could be used for much better things.

Hello - The tax money is spent on other things as well!!

True. Denmark has a very high tax rate but the quality of life there is very good. Maybe you should ask samantha_pia - she lives in Denmark I think.

It's all part of the military budget. What better things? UK military budget is already slashed to the point of uselessness.

    Missed the point. congrats!

Lots of country have a high quality of life. High taxation does not mean high quality of life. Danmark is a rich country too. High taxation does not result in high quality of life.

True but we are still helping you out in Iraq - though I wish we werent. And no, it is not part of the normal military budget.

What was your point? You seemed to be suggesting that 15,000 is spent on the NHS from a person earning 50,000.

You missed the point here - what I was saying is that the high tax rates do not affect the people in Denmark as they benefit from what the tax they pay gives them.

    Really? I don't make over $35,000 a year and I pay...

Lets figure 30% - 35% for federal taxes
    Then add:

    tax on gas
tax on all goods you buy except food
    state tax
    property tax
    phone and internet taxes
tax tax tax tax on EVERYTHING you do or buy

I'd say the average person is paying 60%+ in taxes after every tax is factored in. People forget about all the taxes you get hit with every single day.

dude are you , like retarded? you don't know how much taxes you pay?

it says right on the IRS website

    http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article/0,,id=150856,00.html

    isn't like $4220 like 13% of 30650?

and 25% of the 4k to make 35k , is another thousand so, so like estimated taxes for a 35k income would be $5220 which is like 15%

    Does that sound right?

The thread is about millions of people without health care in America and you come back with a *fact* about people waiting 3 weeks in europe.

Your understanding and analysis of this subject is as deep and concise as ever.

I'm no Michael Moore fan, but watch "sicko" (even if you download it) and see if that doesn't change your opinion on health care in the US
