Validated for weeks. No changes but it failed today.

I was really hoping not to have to add another 'not validating' thread but I'm stumped. Probably missing something simple but when I checked the weight this morning, it failed validation.

My host was having a little difficulty yesterday but alls well now except that validation is still failing on my main page (http://www.toddsplace.ca/).

Any help would be appreciated (and yes, as far as I know, they are on ALL pages).

You are doing a 302 redirect on your base URL. The validator will not follow redirects on the base URL.

I'm wandering in the desert here.

Using the LiveHTTPHeaders plugin for FireFox and examining my .htaccess file, I can't see where this is coming from. I'm obviously out of my realm here. Any clues on where to look to resolve this?

Could it be the way my host implements things?

Do a server header check on your URL with and without the www. This is what I got.

    Server Response: http://www.toddsplace.ca/
    Status: HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily
    Content-Length: 0
    Location: /?98927640

    Server Response: http://toddsplace.ca/
    Status: HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily
    Content-Length: 0
    Location: /?98927640

That 302 indicates a temporary redirect.

Those 302 redirects are going to give you problems with Google as well as ad network.

    Thanks Shannon.

I tried the server check here:

    http://www.webrankinfo.com/english/tools/server-header.php

and received the responses that you did. Knowing now (I think) what I was looking for, I telnetted to my domain and did a get. Doing that I received a 200 response. Tried my wife's domain (same host, shared IP) and received the same results: 200 from here and 302 from webrankinfo.

Now I'm really confused...but I suppose that the issue is with how my host is doing the redirections and not with the stuff that I can configure...does that sound reasonable or am I comparing apples to oranges?

    Thanks,

    Todd...

I have no idea how you can get rid of the 302's but with what I am reading this week they are causing problems with Google and indexing.

Good luck straightening out the problem.

    Thanks Shannon.

    Appreciate the help.

Shawn, is this a recent change to the ad network that triggered this? I'm assuming not and that my host has changed the redirection methods recently due to the validation having worked for such a long time. Just looking for a confirmation.

    Todd,

I'm having the same problem as you are. Yesterday and today, I've gotten the emails that some of my sites are not validating. I couldn't figure out why, since my sites are up and they are showing ads. After reading this thread, I just went to WebRankInfo to look at those sites and they all show 302 redirects! I can't figure out why all of a sudden that is the case, but it must mean that my web host has changed something. All of my sites that are affected are hosted through a Hostgator reseller account. None of my sites on different hosts are affected. I'm just wondering if you also are using Hostgator. I've just emailed their support, so we shall see.

    Guess what!

I'm on hostgator reseller account also and my sites that are hosted with them have been failing then revalidating again....going to webrankinfo right now to check for redirects....

I'm wondering if it has to do with the site being checked
    http://www.yoursite.com
    as opposed to
http:/yoursite.com?? I'm kinda foggy about those issues.

    HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily
    Content-Length: 0
    Location: /?284bf578

What the hey?? I'm contacting hostgator also to see what's up

Todd's were showing redirects for www version and non-www version. Since you both are on reseller accounts you probably have access to your htaccess file and can take care of the 302 issue or get owner of the reseller account to do so.

I'm on hostgator too and have been having the same problem. My site did revalidate manually today.

Shawn, could you try to revalidate a site after 24 hours automatically. I found one of my sites was turned off for days and it really messed up my ranking.

Thought they were showing 200 --Ugg things have changed again will post later with an update...
I am the reseller the reselling account is mine. This is not being administered through the reseller but through hostgator themselves. Sent an email for explaination. I will post back with more info when I recieve it. :)

Well, now the problem is even worse. I emailed Hostgator about this problem an hour ago. And now all my sites are down! Anyone else seeing this?

Well you've outted me now! Yeah, I'm on Hostgator as well. Fired off a support email as soon as Shawn confirmed there hadn't been a change on his end.

I suspect it has something to do with the Santy attack on the 24th...things still weren't back to normal yesterday.

I am a reseller and have access to the .htaccess file as do all of my clients. The redirect isn't in there. Things have changed since yesterday as I've done a manual validation (which passed) earlier in the week.

And Linda, I have emailed support and my site is still active.
