I'm considering buying a Blog that gets 25k of its 32k monthly uniques from stumbleupon. The seller's claim is that he stumbles every post, which brings the traffic. I'm not super-stumble-savvy, and wonder if this sounds like a legit claim, and if anyone has an idea of whether this is sustainable traffic or if there's something fishy that will drop as soon as my payment hits his account. Or is there something else I should be looking for?
Get more info than how many monthly uniques. Find out the bounce rate. That'll tell you what % of the visitors leave the page without clicking anywhere else. StumbleUpon users typically like to spend less than a minute on a site before going to a new site. You might not get a lot out of that kind of traffic.
Stumble traffic can also be purchased. Make sure that it's organic. I'm not sure how to differentiate between paid and organic by looking at the logs etc.
I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. Obviously the site is not very stable if most of the traffic is comming from stumbleupon. This means it's not SEO-ed enough becuase search engine traffic can't come close.
I get around 500 hits from stumble upon, i also get around 500 from google every month. It generates buzz and the stumblers are only going to link your articles to friends etc. I say go for it if the blog content itself is good.
SU has high bounce rates. Get way more info, because while the site may get a lot of hits, it may be lacking in visitors that stick around...
