I have an opportunity to obtain an 8 year old domain name that's brandable and related to the niche site I'm wanting to start. The domain has been registered since 1999 but archive.org shows no activity. Type-ins aren't very high. Probably 50-100 a month. What's its worth? What should I offer him?
The domain may be in use for email so you would not see a web site. I currently don't have a web site on my domain. My wife's domain has been registered since 1999 and has never had a web site on it. It has always been used as an email provider for her business. gene
There is more to age when it comes to valuing a domain name. To me, age is the least important factor as compared to SERP value, relevance and PR rating. I do have domain names which are probably about the same age and probably would only be worth slightly the same value as the registration fees. In the end, it depends on what the buyer value it. If you are happy with that valuation, that would be the price of what it is worth.
0$ to high XXXXXXXXX $ depends on the domain, Age contributes 0% when it comes to the value of a domain
Domain age has some importance in SEO as search engine like google take into consideration that their owners are legitimate resultant the older domain don't wait much longer in a sandbox, I have personal experience on this. http://www.visionefx.net/articles/Longer-Domain-Registration-Can-Increase-Search-Engine-Listings.htm
Registering a domain (a Website) for more years definitely have benefit in my experience too ., But a 8 years old domain (just domain) does not have any value than one is willing to pay for it., It definitely does not add any value to SE rankings.,
Age is just a surrogate. What is more important is how long it has been indexed by the search engines. If it's 12 years old and only been indexed for 1 year then it's worth no more than a 1 year old domain.
