Top 5 tips on how to build a landing page

An effective sales landing page is what comprises of a successful Internet Marketing campaign. Every Internet Marketer knows this. However, not many knows how to build an effective landing page.

Therefore, in this article, i will be focusing on the top 5 tips on how to build a landing page

    1. Do not hide your products/services.

Your homepage should contain vital information about your site's products and services as this is the very first page that your visitors will see when they arrive at your website.

Always remember that new unique visitors to your page will only take a few seconds to determine whether is your landing page relevant to what they are looking for.

Therefore, by making your homepage as a splash page with fanciful images, you are putting a huge boulder in front of them blocking their vision ahead. This will often deter visitors from exploring any further.

An effective web page should be one that is able to capture the visitors' attention during their 1st few seconds of visit to the website. This can be achieved by stating clearly in the header and title of your website the products/services that you are providing.

    2. Keep your navigation menu simple and your menu labels clear

One of the key elements of an effective sales landing page is that the navigation should be easy for visitors to follow through.A homepage designed with 20 different menu buttons will often make the visitors confused over the plentiful choices available. In cases like this, they will most likely leave the site.

You would not want your visitor to be confused or perturbed upon browsing your web page.

Hence, the rule of thumb here is that your landing page should not have more than 8 main categories on your homepage so as to prevent your visitors from feeling lost.

On top of this, all your menu labels should be clear which explicitly states what's behind every menu. You would never want your visitor to guess what a particular menu item will bring them to when they click it.

Always make it easy for your visitor to navigate smoothly around your site without them having to use too much of their brainpower.

    3. Tell your visitors what your site is about, who it's for, and what makes it different

Always think from the consumer's point of view and ask yourself all these questions when designing a web-page :

What kind of people will benefit from your site? What makes your product uniquely different from other similar products? To answer all of these questions up front, you will need a captivating benefit-rich headline to capture the visitor's attention the moment they visit your site.

    4. Make sure your copy is scannable

A typical website visitor will just scan your homepage and will not read every word of your website. They will want to look for clues to help them understand is the website relevant to their findings.

Therefore, you have to make your website "scanning-friendly"

Break your text into parts , including lots of subheadings , bulleted list and striking fonts and colors to bring your visitor's sight to the most important parts of the homepage. Put emphasis on crucial parts of the homepage .

On top of this, you will also have to adjust the wideness of your homepage not more than 650 pixels wide. If the web page is too wide and when text starts running from the far left to the far right, it will be not possible for visitors to absorb all the information at one glance. A web page too wide will provide yet another hinderance for visitors to browse through your website.

After reading the tips on how to build a landing page, you should by now know that the fundamental rule towards building an effective landing page is that you have to capture the attention of your visitors for the 1st few seconds . Once you are able to do that, you are halfway through making a sales !
