There are alot of questions about starting off marketing your website, so I have decided to make this post where everyone can post there ideas and what they know works in marketing your website. Keywords Keywords are what is searched in the search engine, if you have good keywords you will be found easier on search engines such as Google. If someone searches “Webmaster Forum†and your Meta tags include Webmaster Forum and the content on your website has the words “webmaster forumâ€, your website will be found easier when the term “webmaster forum†is searched in a search engine such as Google. Here is a free keyword tool I have found: www.freekeywords.wordtracker.com Blogging and Pinging Blogs are where you post information, known as “articlesâ€, Blogs are found very easily in search engines. Blogs get high search engine rankings easily and keywords help get even higher rankings, if you offer good quality information, you will keep getting repeat visitors. Blogger.com is a free and easy to use blogging tool: www.blogger.com Wordpress.com is a free blog, with lads of addable plug ins, you need a domain name to use this: www.wordpress.org I recommend using the share it plug-in with this as if your content is good readers will send it to friends. RSS Feeds such as www.feedburner.com allows you to get your blog found even easier and have some cool features. Pinging www.pingomatic.com allows you to tell search engines your blog has been updated within minutes. Squidoo, Digg It, Myspace etc… Once again these get easy search engine rankings, it takes around an hour to get one sorted but then it’s a matter of just copying and pasting it onto each one. www.squidoo.com www.myspace.com www.facebook.com Digg it etc… Submitting Articles submitting articles to a place where they are read is an easy way to pick up traffic from high ranking well visited websites. I am still experimenting with this. Posting on Blogs/Forums posting on a blog/forum is an easy way to get traffic; you need to make it a genuine comment and not just an advertisement. Advertising on websites You can get low prices on advertising from web master forums, such as forums.digitalpoint.com Advertising in Your Local Paper Most of the time you can pick up some free publicity from a newspaper, by having a genuine article that is worth there time to publish and your link at then end. Videos Videos get easily ranked, there are loads of top video sites, submitting your videos to all of them will only increase your chances of getting found. You are advertising on there website which is searched by millions and getting high search engine rankings. This is from my website: www.hostbadger.com/blog If you enjoyed it visit my website and sign up and you will get e-mails telling you when i have posted a new article. At the very least just digg my article: http://digg.com/tech_news/8_Effective_ways_to_get_traffic_to_your_website Thanks
ALL OF THAT IS GOOD BUT ANOTHER THING YOU CAN TRY IS http://www.dnavertical.com/icontact works for you really comprehensible and let you try it for free so you can see how it works
If you keep that mentality, eventually your efforts will have been in vain. If everything you pay for can be had for free, why would anyone want to pay you for anything, including advertising ? You get back what you put out.
Maybe so, but long term, you cannot deny that keywords blogging etc... all the ways mentioned in my thread are the best ways.
I agree everyone should be building a list. I need to get into making videos as well, from what I see people are gettin pretty good results driving traffic with this method.
I would agree with what you put into promoting your site you will reap rewards later,if you just build a site and then leave it you wont get any visitors. We have been promoting some of our sites in the build up to Christmas for many months to sites like Digg and Blogging and many other ways. With the world in a recession people will be more selective in purchasing items or services and if you have put in the time and effort it will pay dividends.Fact
Way to give a spammer a free full link (in your quote). He obviously had no intention of inputting anything valuable to the conversation besides spamming his money making link.
Instead of using a "ping" service to notify search engines, you should have a site map generator installed on your site, and then submit that site map to the search engines. In my google webmaster tools, I have never seen a "ping" mentioned. Instead, google recommends that you submit an XML site map. If you have a forum that gets a few thousand post a day, you do not want to submit each post using a "ping" tool. Posting on forums and blogs and spamming your link is a good way to get banned. If someone signs up on my forum, and their first post has a link in it, they are banned without even looking at their second post. HUH??? What are you talking about? You do not need a domain name to create a wordpress.com account. If you have a domain you are not using, you can point it towards your wordpress.com blog. I have a wordpress.com account and I did not have to enter any information about my websites.
To add I've been using a sitemap, submitting to directories, and doing heavy social bookmarking on a number of foreign bookmarking sites.
I like the list. I do believe there is alot of work involved with doing theses steps but all very worthwhile.
