    Hey,

Apparently according to word-tracker (TRIAL) one of the keyphrases I'm targeting has 140 searches a day. This result was based on MSN wasn't it?

Well basically I'm ranked #1 for that keyphrase now, but I get basically no traffic from MSN.

What do you think the reason for this could be? Any ideas?

    Thanks

P.S. You're probably wondering why I went for a keyphrase with only 140 searches on msn a day! I don't actually know, I just felt like it... :D

Hmm that's wierd dude, it should be at least generating something. Without knowing the term it's hard to say, but is it maybe a case of targetting the wrong version of the term, ie. the plural of the term when it would have made more sense to targe the singular term?? Something like that maybe.

Why do you even bother focusing on MSN? Not even Bill Gates uses that crap.

I have top 1 results that get less than 1% of the traffic a #10 listing at Google sends

I'm not really targeting MSN, I just happened to become #1... But after getting #1 I started to wonder why it wasn't producing any results in terms of traffic.

I will do a lot more link building in a month or so but right now I'm #14 on Google, #161 on Yahoo  (in case you were wondering)

I just checked both the plural and singular term and I turn up #1 for both on MSN. I dunno, I suppose I'll just work on the site more and see what happens. :)

That is seriously screwed up dude. At least you werent specifically targetting the term otherwise you'd be really peeved. Do you mind PMing me the term just out of interest?

    Cheers

Whenever I've used Wordtracker, I've been able to select the SEs (up to three) for which I wanted data - but I've never used the trial version. Does it only show data for MSN? And, if not, is it possible that the data is for another SE, and there are actually *no* searches for your keyword in MSN? Just a theory, of course...your set of circumstances seems pretty difficult to explain.

If I remember correctly the trial version only provides data for MSN and you need to pay to get the rest...

So the 140 searches a day is for MSN (I'm pretty sure) and so I have no idea why I'm not getting much traffic.

Since the launch of the site several weeks ago, I've had visitors from (just talking about SEs):

    Google: . . . 2 . . . Ranked 14th for Keyphrase
    MSN: . . . . .9 . . . Ranked 1st for Keyphrase
    Yahoo: . . . .0 . . . Ranked 161st for Keyphrase (so not surprising really :D)

Well I'll do link building once my exams are over so the visitor count should increase significantly but I still can't really explain the lack of visitors from MSN. Especially considering the fact I'm ranked 1st, 1st, 6th and 8th in 4 other deviations of the keyphrase (some of the more popular search terms).

Yeah, that's pretty strange, and leads me to believe that the Wordtracker data is either incorrect or dated. Since you're using the free version, you may want to try and run it again to see if you get the same results.
