Exxon Mobile Posts Quarterly Profit of $9.9 Billion Exxon Mobile posted a Corporate Record of $9,900,000,000 amid a time when consumers are paying sky-high prices for gas at the pump and for heating their homes. Exxon's quarterly profit was up 75% from 1 year earlier, and revenue was up to more than $100 Billion, a 32 percent increase. The record earnings have prompted calls for profits taxes or other penalties on the oil companies. $10 Billion in profits in a single quarter equates to roughly $75,000 profit per minute. Making a profit is considered the "American Way" of business, but whatever happened to "of the people, by the people, for the people" ... why are big oil corporations getting billions in tax breaks whilst the rest of us are paying astronomical and record prices at the gas pumps. Worse yet, many people have yet to fully realize the full blunt force trauma of rising oil prices but soon will with the Winter season quickly approaching.
What goes around comes around. When the oil stocks run out these companies will be losing money through paying staff for no output. Unless they have already thought ahead and are pouring money into renewable sources of power their money making days won't last much longer. However 9.9 billion is a nice profit
I am all for capitalism, but come on man, it's big oil companies taking advantage of national tradegy. I think this would have been equal to me taking a truck of water to the people trapped in New Orleans and charging $5 a bottle. It's robbery. Not to mention what their next quarter earnings will be because we all HAVE to heat our homes.
I believe most of the big dogs are, but it almost appears for more PC reasons than anything Commercials all the time in the US on how BP is doing this and that, etc besides 'oil'
I'm scared to that part, it's not uncommon for me to have $800 bills the way it is in winter, I can only image the monthly bill this winter!
My gas bills have gone up 30% since October. Not looking forward to the bill when it comes through the door. I'm thinking of making a little wood fire in the middle of the living room.
It's interesting to note the White House and big oil are best of friends. http://corpwatch.org/article.php?id=12446
Our heating bills are $23.00 per month every winter. Our community signed an agreement to pay a higher price than average back in 1955 to lock in the price we pay for heating oil / natural gas / and electicity. It sure is paying off these days. I will have my thermostat set at 68 degrees anyways though, hate to waste that precious resource.
LOL, yeah I guess 'maybe' I pay for 5 different utility boxes where I live part of the reason for the huge bills, almost $100 just in customer service charges!
For Gas/Electricity because they come from the same people here, we pay about $165 a month, they sent us a letter stating that would go up between 30 and 40% God Bless America
The bad part is Exxon is one of those companies where consumers really can't say, "forget you. I'm banning your company." I mean they can continue to rape people all they want. What are people going to do not drive to work, not heat their house.
No, It is not Capitalism. It has got nothing to do with production, cost of production or lack of resource. The reason for high price is the lack of certainty of future and if the government is going to make another war that can possibly cause problem with oil production. For example if you had $100 in your pocket and a thief had no money and he robs you, so afterward he has $100 and you have none, is this Capitalism? No, because there was no production of wealth, the total sum is still $100 but the ownership has changed. This is also a redistribution of wealth, from your pocket to oil companies bank account.
Not exactly true because in the end you recieve a product for your $100 and not just a swift kick in the arse. They abuse the fact the we all rely heavily on "oil" to get back and forth to make the money we need for other things. It's price gouging, but, it is not outright theft.
I think I just read an article in msn that says BP has like 99.99% invested in oil and those commerical are just BS In fact all the big oil companies are running, "were the good guys" ads all over the place What do people really expect when they put all oil people in the most powerful positions in country.
