75% of sales seems very high. Chances are the mark up on the product isn't even enough to cover this. I would ask for something based on gross profit that ownership would deem reasonable. Request something around 10-20% of gross profit and you will be in line with a commisioned salesperson.

I am doing it for 5% of gross sales. It doesn't seem like much, but 2 months later, I am now getting $2200 dollars per month. This will be 10 times as much within 6 months.

Awesome! That's great to hear! Not to mention, if you can bring in that kind of sales, you may receive bonuses from the company time to time or even an increase in your percentage because you are putting yourself in a position to become extremely valuable to the company.

    Hello,

Sorry for not replying to everyone I have been on holiday.

To clear up some confussion I'll start by saying that the 75% I was thinking was of profit, after tax, paypal fees and all the rest.

And to make the product more clear to you.

It sells for £40 and makes a profit of about £7.20. At present the company is making about 15-20 sales a month!!! So like I said the business is basically losing money.

The reason I thought of the figure of 75% of the profit was because otherwise I would be working for basically nothing. Now I don't mind working for a little as I am quite new to all this. But as you can see for 20-30% it really wouldn't be worth anyones time and the company owner is a kind of friend.... who is not in the possition to lay out ANY money up front to anyone to do SEO for him.

I had also thought about what someone mentioned in here about lowering my percentage, once the company started to make some OK sales.

I'm not saying what I am suggesting is the best solution thats is why I am here asking the question to get various different oppinions any maybe some guidance on what deal I should be proposing.

lol, the client is a friend and you are asking for 75% of the profit. some friend you are :) if it's not a good opportunity, just find another one but what you are proposing is ridiculous.

this can be good offer for them if and only if there will be no other SEO guy who can provide what you will do for less.

This is my point exactally. I can't see anyone willing to take such a gamble with this company that is currently making nothing and not wanting to offer any upfront cash.
