We are looking for a fun character-based logo and mascot for a new company that will be based out of China. We truly are hoping that you will let your creativity run wild on this one. The plan is for the mascot and logo to be used on cups, t-shirts and made into stuffed animals or figurines. It needs to be visually striking, unique and easily recognizable. The mascot can be an animal or a made-up creature. The focus should be on cute, friendly and happy. We would like for there to be some red within the design but it does not need to be the primary color. Please keep the color palette somewhat limited i.e. think children's toys with no more than 4-5 colors but feel free to use any colors you wish. We do not want a food-based character. The mascot should have an Asian-style but not be based on traditional Chinese animals like dragons, vermilion birds, etc. We don't want something in the Anime style but something more like Banana Chippy Jolly Monkey, the mascots from the Beijing Olympics or similar to the look of Amigurumi characters with the rounded/bubble-like heads on smaller, disproportionate bodies. We plan on changing the clothing on the mascot for holidays, special events and promotions so please do not include clothing as part of your design. Payment will be made via PayPal and the contest will end at 12:00 (noon) EST on February 22nd. All copyrights must convey so that the winning design can be fully trademarked. Edited to add... Based on a question and submission via PM, I would like to add the following to the description... Please avoid dragons. The client specifically mentioned that again. Additionally, after seeing elmagnefeco's submission, they ask that no one use skunks, foxes or snakes in their designs as well. As to who the mascot should appeal to, the target age group will be around 15-28 years old. Think young people with disposable cash who frequent large shopping malls. Hope that helps and we look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
It's open until February 22nd. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that folks are just waiting until it gets closer to the deadline but I suspect early entries might have an advantage with my client.
We have received several terrific submissions via PM. I will be providing direct feedback to each of the artists but wanted to include some of the information that has been passed on to me that might be helpful to everyone. Please accept my apologies for this first part. This mascot will be for a new shop. I was originally told the color selection would be up to the artists participating in this contest. However, I received word this morning that the colors have been selected for the store's decor and they will be using purple, red, gold and a green accent color. The client would like submissions to include one or more of those colors. One of them provided the following Hex color codes as being fairly close to the intended color scheme... Purple = #302B59 or #0F0916 Red = #770900 #591200 #69090C Gold = #F38D0A Green = #152409 Do keep in mind that you don't have to limit yourself to these colors but ideally the design should look like it belongs in a shop decorated in these colors. We received a nice submission earlier today that depicted a lazy/sleepy animal. Please remember we are looking for cute, happy and cheerful. Laziness is not at all in keeping with the message this mascot should portray. We asked folks not to include snakes, foxes or skunks because because the have been associated with sneakiness or bad smells for similar reasons. Some advice from me...It seems the clients are favoring a design that features a more nondescript/un-recognizable creature. It has features of two different animals combined to create something entirely new. That may or may not mean anything other than it is the submission they like the best so far. I think they are looking for something that is versatile and can be used a bunch of different ways (like just the head) but still separates itself from a generic representation of a animal/cartoonish logo. The clients are hoping that there will be more entries to choose from, so there is still opportunity here for anyone to submit the winning design.
One more quick update... After seeing two submissions with dogs, the clients have expressed that they do not think a dog would be a match for the brand that they are trying to build. Also, please avoid making the mascot too human-like. They commented on a cute submission with very human-like characteristics that it would be a better match for a clothing store rather than what they are planning to sell. So, my advice to everyone is to focus on imaginary and animals more strongly in your submissions. Please, before working on your designs, visit the suggestions - the Olympic characters, Amigurumi and Banana Chippy before beginning your designs. They will give you a feel for the Asian styling they are looking for as well as some ideas for you to build upon.
Hi Everyone, We have a little over 24 hours left in this contest. So far there has only been one design that has caught the attention of my clients. I'm not going to post the entry here, at least until after the contest is over, but I thought if anyone is working on any last minute submissions that I would give you the benefit of the feedback and a general description of the submission that's currently in the lead. The mascot has the features of two different animals. It has an overall Asian/Amigurumi appearance that is not using any of the suggested colors. (It was submitted before the color request so I have no idea if they feel the colors can be represented with clothing or they do not care as much if it matches.) They offered the artist the following feedback this morning... If you do submit, please keep in mind that they will be changing the clothing frequently and your design should work with or without the clothes. Thank you for all of the wonderful submissions so far. And shame on you turkeys who submitted stock images.
With just under 2 hours left, I thought I would let everyone know where we stand. I will continue to forward any new submissions received by the deadline to the clients. As of now, the following members have designs currently being reviewed... Dakouten karthikeyanthunder Pehulz TJB10 Any other submissions have been reviewed and you should have received feedback via PM.
Seventh, it's in the last group being reviewed. Good luck to all of the last minute submitters and finalists. I'll let everyone know who won as soon as the client tells me.
