    Hello designers,

    "The Cruikshank Group" requires a logo. They are a general contracting company, with experience in construction. The principles that are most close to their business mission include (a) quality, (b) commitment, and (c) integrity. These values are a core part of their traditional approach to every client project.

    The logo must provide a highly professional image. It should reflect the theme/mood as described above.

    Feedback will be provided to all participants.

    Biz name: The Cruikshank Group

    Optional working tag line:

    "Building Quality with Integrity"

    Idea: A versatile construction company that is ultra focused on the quality of their work, and commitment to meeting or exceeding their customers expectations at every phase.

    Delivery Format: Illustrator (vector format) + PNG.

    Size: I would prefer it to be more width dominated (rectangular). Should stay within 350x100 (L x W) in dimensions (preferred).

    Motif: Please use your creativity to introduce design elements that reflect the theme. The founder expressed ideas related to tradition, wisdom, and history.

    Color Palette Desired:

    The color palette is open to your creativity. Here is a photo of a library scene that reflects the concept of "tradition" in the way the founder described. The dark "forest green" colors where the only color in particular that he mentioned.

    You can use this for inspiration. However, you are encouraged to make your own color choices with your original designs.

    @watari: I like the design. Can you explain the concept you were going for in the symbol? Might be interesting to see this with a secondary color added in somewhere, maybe to distinguish the tagline from biz name.

    Great start! =)

    @Tpell:

    I think this looks very elegant, but perhaps too simplistic, and a little shifted too far towards a law office style. I'm also concerned that it might not scale well on a business card.

    @EternalLight:

    I'm not sure the green gradient concept works great here. The green the founder likes is a darker, forest style green (like the tapestries in the sample photo). I'm also not sure how to interpret the symbol.

    Looking forward to seeing more entries. Great start so far. If you guys have any other concepts in mind, I would love to see them.

    Here is my LOGO. The C is represented in the ball and it also represents an arrow. ;)

    @logorain:

    Thank-you for your submission. I see what you were going for with the "C" cut-out. I like the clean approach, but I think this one is a little under the mark of what the founder wants to represent. I would welcome any ideas or re-works on this concept that you may have in mind. I don't think any of the submissions (so far) have come up with a really strong symbol yet.

    @DevilishBoy:

    Although I have not yet consulted with the founder, your logo is my favorite so far from the early submissions. I like the overall design, but I think some changes might strengthen it more. could the symbol be make to look more like "C G" than "C C"? You might want to try dropping the THE part. It seems out of place. I might experience with all caps for CRUIKSHANK.

    @all:

    Thanks all. If any of you are having trouble with the creative ideas on the logo, please ask any questions you would like. You may be able to dig out some ideas to help channel more ideas for you. For instance, I haven't seen any attempts at symbols that actually reflect the construction industry in a clear way.

    Looking forward to see some new options.

    As long as the Photoshop version is of sufficient quality to be scaled for multiple purposes at high quality (think truck mounted sign, t-shirts, glossy flyers) is will be OK. Will saving a Photoshop file as a vector provide enough resolution for these purposes?

    In my opinion, i rarelyl i never use illustrator i feel photoshop gives a greater control for such designs, which i consider this one to be of high quality, so if there are any problems with my entries i can resave it under illustrator however i doubt that thank you looking forward to post my entries.

    This is my idea... A Traditional styled font which displays the contemporary approach. Using a symbolic letter "C" symbols which is styled to match...

    @logorain:

    Thank-you for the new version. However, it would not be suitable for the company. It uses only one color, and does not have enough impact. We need a symbol that makes more impact. I would suggest re-thinking the symbol and looking at some other color options.

    @killerdesign:

    I like your logo a lot. It is the traditional style (somewhat corporate) as you stated. The color use is very good. I might suggest trying to put the "The" in front of "Cruikshank Group" or leaving it out. Also, I would like to see the tag line match the width of "Cruikshank Group" above it. Perhaps the gray color in the tagline could be darkened a bit. I think the color choices are great.

    @all:

    So far, killerdesign has provided the leading option. However, I would really like to see something more creative with the symbol part of the logo.

    I also hard a very hard time thinking of possible symbols that would capture the elegance and prestige the founder wants to portray without weakening it with something like a building symbol.

    Maybe something that uses a more generic symbol and then cuts out a familiar shape such as an architect's compass could work (perhaps as a cutout)?

    @killerdesign - The compass cutout might even work horizontal over your existing symbol?

    Another option might be assembling an abstract shaping using small square blocks (symbolizing "build blocks").

    As requested... Font Alignment for tagline and I deem to just remove the "The" to make it appear balanced than adding it as a third word to the company name...

    [IMG]

    This version uses your compass suggestion...

    [IMG]

    This one is my idea of the building blocks with an abstract "C"...
