So if you send a report that there is 2 million homeless in LA, do you think they will just say OK and record it?

No, I totally expect the HUD Sec to go to LA and count them all on his clicker to make sure its accurate. It's hard to believe you cannot see the flaws in this method of counting people.

Besides, since 45 die/second every hour of every day of the year; most will be dead by the time they got around to it, so why bother. ;)

So what are you trying to say that homelessness doesn't exist or are you trying to say that it is Democrats fault?

I don't care who is responsible, it is not ACCEPTABLE.

Nope. Just saying the numbers are used and inflated for political gain. That's all. People are homeless, but its generally accepted that many are mentally ill.

It is unacceptable. Great. Feel free to pay one homeless person's rent for a while No one stops you. Really.

So you probably should have started a post saying "boo Canada" instead? With twice the homeless rate? Probably just an oversight, right? :D

It belongs here as well, what gworld is implying by saying, "Why the hell there should be any homeless in the richest country in the world?" is that somehow people have the right to have a home, but having the right to a home strips people with homes of their property ownership.

If you're homeless in Canada you're dead. Winters kill.

America one could survive easily. I knew several that have.

The only homeless people I feel sorry for are children or people who have mental or physical handicaps. There are a lot of people who are homeless because they made bad financial decisions, like taking on debt and buying worthless junk that losses its value. However, the numbers listed are much lower. There are probably over 3 million people in the U.S. who are homeless.

About every homeless person I've known is a druggy. San Fran is said to have one of the highest level of drug use in the country....we have a lot of homeless people.

Children will get put into adoption agencies if found to be homeless. Mentally handicapped people actually get a great deal of government money. In fact the below stats mirror the poverty in America. It seems (to me) it's a handful of factors....circumstance, mental capacity, and personal behaviour.

Although I lend it more to things like the below.

    Chronic welfare recipient (mothers) IQ/Percentage
    <75-------- 31
    75–90-------17
    90–110-------8
    110–125------2
    >125--------< 1

    Values are the percentage of each IQ sub-population, among non-Hispanic whites only, fitting each descriptor. Compiled by Gottfredson (1997) from a U.S. study by Herrnstein & Murray (1994) pp. 171, 158, 163, 174, 230, 180, 132, 194, 247–248, 194, 146 respectively.

Having worked with the homeless I can tell you this... there will always be homeless. The reason is far more complicated than any amount of money could right.
