There were 744,000 homeless people in the United States in 2005, according to the first national estimate in a decade.

A little more than half were living in shelters, and nearly a quarter were chronically homeless, according to the report Wednesday by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, an advocacy group.

A majority of the homeless were single adults, but about 41 percent were in families, the report said. In total, 98,452 homeless families were counted.

Why the hell there should be any homeless in the richest country in the world? American people living in the street and the government spends 350,000,000,000 dollars for occupying other countries that only benefits few corporations.

Wow, that's all? Another post to take a pot shot at America, right gworld? That's what you used to do all the time.

Interesting. Perhaps they should move to Reno Nevada. I have a newspaper here with thousands of open jobs available. Anything from flipping burgers to handing out newspaper at the McDonalds drive through exits, right down to Internet marketing jobs. It's all open and ready for new employees.

    Amazing!

    Canada Homeless = 0.125 % (40,000 / 32,000,000)

    USA Homelss= 0.249 % (744000/ 298,000,000)

While Canada's homeless number is half of the USA in comparison, there is no excuse that there should be any homeless in USA or Canada. If we have so much money to waste on killing people in other countries, we should have enough money to take care of these people.

    The numbers I found showed 200,000, yielding .625 %

While Canada's homeless is more than twice that of the US, gworld singles out the US without noting his own country's homeless rate ;)

Don't you hate it when that happens?

Seems like there are a whole slew of resources that show an estimated 200,000 in Canada.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=homeless+rate+in+canada+200,000&btnG=Search

Will you be starting a post that shows "200,000 Homeless in Canada - More than twice that of the US?"

    Food for thought ;)

    Oh...Boo America!

If we are going to go on baseless numbers then I can do a Google search that shows USA has millions of homeless people but I prefer to stick to reputable sources like government statistics. ;)
I am part of a group of business people who are trying to deal with homeless situation in Vancouver which is one of our biggest cities and we have about 2000 homeless. In my opinion, in this age even 1 homeless is not acceptable, how about you?

That's why I posted a direct link to all those google searches that referenced those reputable numbers. I could have picked out a few, but it was so overwhelming.

Yes, with your own country having more than twice as much homeless as the US, it would be good to do something for them. Of course, your point was to stain America, as usual. That's really what your posts are about, no? It took me pointing out how much worse your own homelessness rate is in Canada for you to show you suddenly care.

If you really are doing something, good for you! Where your point was to point the finger at America, I was absolutely shocked it was that low. I really thought it would be a lot higher. More in line with what Canada is.

Do the math.... 45*60 seconds/minute*60 minutes/hour*24hours/day*365days/year...Its a good thing they die so often, or we might have more of them

GT you need to take stock of things before you slate people.

A lot of us are not slating America as a nation, I have many friends from the US and happen to like Americans, I am pretty sure gworld feels the same.

We are slating the damn dangerous bastards that happen to be in charge of the USA, not the people. Don't take everything so personal guy because you are missing the point here, and you seem to miss the point an awful lot of the time these days.

Oh lordy O'Reilly is on FOX in 40 minutes, I am looking forward to it, there will be plenty of Bush arse licking going on no fucking doubt about that. [IMG]

I was taking stock of him long before you ever knew of this place. He's a big boy; gworld and I have battled for a LONG, LONG time. He just took off for eight months or so. We can both handle each other quite well.

Isn't ironic that you didn't make a post saying gworld needs to take stock before "slating" people or countries? Building allies? :D

    Let's play the Google game:

    Homeless USA

    Some quotes:

An estimated 3.5 million people are likely to experience homelessness in a given year, the Urban Institute reports. People remained homeless for an average of six months, according to the Conference of Mayors survey

    http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/2003-08-11-homeless_x.htm

USA Homeless rate= 3,500,000/298,000,000= 1.174 % or twice as much as Canada.

Like I said I prefer to use government sources instead since those numbers are bad enough. No one should be homeless in this age.

Then why are you quoting an advocacy group for 744,000? Census puts the number at about 270,000 or so?

Feel free to pay a homeless person's rent :)

Ah, how rude of me. Were you pretending to be the spokesman for the anti-America, never have a bad word for terrorist crowd?

Usually people's comments speak for themselves. Like "ignorant Americans" and posts started for the sole reason of targeting America.

gworld, looks like this one backfired on you :D

No worries, there will be something new to blame America for tomorrow. And I'm sure you'll be the first one to post it! Don't forget to check Canada first though!

"The group compiled data collected by the Department of Housing and Urban Development from service providers throughout the country. It is the first national study on the number of homeless people since 1996."

    From the same source.

Good for you darling. That must mean that you are better than me right? :D

    No sir.

I just happen to agree a lot more with what gworld says than what you say.
I feel you are blinded from reality mate, too hung up on being such a staunch Republican that you fail to listen to anyone that speaks out against them, that's pretty lame mate.

Time to take them "Bill O'Reilly Blinkers" off buddy and get with reality! :D

No, its not. The numbers come from people who report numbers to the DHUD. the government is not counting the numbers. It is simply reporting what others send in. There is a HUGE difference there. Hope you can see that.
