This list is compiled with the help of Vilesilencer's free general directories list. I came across a sheet of directory lists I printed out 14 months ago from the Vilesilencer lists, and it was interesting to compare it with the directories that are still listed now. Back then there were (I think) just under 200 free general directores listed, and now it's well over 400. These are the directories that appear on both lists, and have therefore, to some extent, stood the test of time. Obviously it's not an exhaustive list, and it's no guarantee that these directories won't disappear soon, but it should give you some idea of the rate of attrition with directories, and which ones have a track record. Most of these directories have risen in PR. It's food for thought if you're considering directory submission, and wondering if it's worth doing or paying someone else to do. I have compared it with the listings in Website Submitter. All the directories exists (so all are functional). You have in your list 4 directories that are not existing in my list. The grouping of directories after the age is also a great method and I am also thinkink more often these days to implement such a nice feature.
It's not a bad way of prioritising your time. Submit first to the older directories, because the chances are they are going to be well run ones that will still be around next year. I don't have any similar analysis for all the niche listings, because I didn't make a copy of all the info at that time. But I have a feeling that the results would be slightly different, with a higher percentage of niche listings staying the course. 10 of the 15 directories that were in the UK niche 14 months ago, were still around in the updated November lists, for example.
